About this ebook
Lucas and Emma are off for a week at pony camp! They are looking forward to riding new horses and making new barn friends.
Fitting in can be difficult when the other kids have been riding longer and you're one of the youngest kids. While Emma has some trouble picking up new terms in their lessons, Lucas has a run-in with a mean bully.
Each setback shows them how important friends are. Knowing when to ask for help, and staying positive can turn a bad start into the best week ever.

To all the camp horses and ponies that made my summers awesome.
image-placeholderimage-placeholderLong white fences lined the road, and when Lucas sat up straight enough in the backseat, he could see horses in the fields beyond them. They were nearly at Hollow Valley Farm.
He and his best friend, Emma, were signed up for a week of horse camp, where they would get to ride every day and learn all about life on the farm.
The camp was for kids of all ages. At eight years old, they might not be the youngest, but there were bound to be bigger kids around, and lots of good riders. He was eager to watch them, but also nervous to ride with them. What if everyone was better than him and Emma?
Sure they took care of their own ponies—Rocko and Honey—at horse shows, but that was different. This week they would be surrounded by new horses, new instructors, and new friends. Emma elbowed him, and Lucas gulped. Did she know what he was thinking?
I kind of wish we could have brought our ponies.
Lucas said.
Lucas hadn’t ridden a pony other than his own in a long time, and Honey made it easy for him.
Me too, but our instructor says we’ll learn more riding the other horses.
Emma bounced in her seat and pushed her finger against the glass. Look at that one!
Standing right near the fence was a speckled horse, mostly white but with round flecks of dark brown all over its body.
I wonder if I’ll get to ride him. I’ve never ridden an appaloosa!
She seemed much more excited than anxious, and Lucas took a deep breath. It would be cool
