Michael Tavon

Michael Tavon (1991) was born St. Petersburg, Florida to Michael & Desiree Patterson. Although Tavon and two sisters grew up in low income-crime driven neighborhoods his parents instilled the importance of goals, education, and the 'will-to-do-good' in their children. As a child he developed a likeness for literature and television. His first book,"Garage Band The Legend of Dookie Harris", was self-published in 2014. Tavon is currently pursuing his Bachelors degree in Creative writing and will be attending the University of Central Florida in 2018.

Cry, But Stay Strong - Michael Tavon

This collection is a compilation of poems from my published works; in this book, you will find selected poems from the following works:

    Nirvana: Pieces of Self-Healing Vol. 1 & 2

Songs for Each Mood Vol. 1& 2

    The Pisces

    Dreaming in a Perfect World

    Young Heart, Old Soul

    A Day Without Sun

This is a great collection if you haven’t read any of the poetry collections mentioned. No new material is presented in this book, but most of the poems have been revised. The goal for this book is to shed light on my lesser-known poetry collections, as they deserve some love and are brilliant collections too.

    Cry, But

    Stay Strong

    Stay Strong

    Cry, but stay strong

    Let those tears flow

    While holding

    Your head high

    Pain doesn’t break you

    It shapes you.

    Imperfect

    Some days I feel

    Like a rising sun

    Other days

I feel like a dark cloud

    Looming over other’s joy

To love me is to know

    I won’t shine every day

    So, when I rain

    Will you still

    Find the beauty

    behind my darkness

    Proceed with Caution

    It took a while

to fall in love with you

    Because my heart

    could not afford another disappointment

    Piece Twenty-one

It took a while for me

to love myself the learning process

    Was filled with many

    Trials and tribulations

    Fake smiles and empty laughs

    Many days I convinced myself

I was fine by numbing my pain

    With delusions of grandeur after

    Inhaling smoke from weed

    blunts and quenching my thirst

    with whiskey shots

    I’m happy,

I lied to myself hundreds of times.

    I love myself

I tried to convince my mind.

    While deep inside

    I was fighting for peace

The most significant battle I had to

Overcome, but the first step I had to take

Was accepting my sadness and finding ways

    To defeat it.

The battle became a war, but I

    Survived the crossfire;

    Now I’m a warrior

Who has learned to love everything within

After ‘Dying to Live’ by Edgar Winter

Somedays, the sun begs me to wake up

    When my body feels anchored

To the bed, the outside world

    Seems too grim to explore.

    Sometimes the warmth

    From my blanket

    Feels like a shield

    From this cold world,

when staying in bed seems like

    The resolution to my problems

    I try to convince myself

it’s better to live in fear

    than to go outside,

    There’s no use in living

If I’m just living to die

    The sun grows more relentless

    in its pursuit

to get me out into the world.

    Eventually, I concede,

    brush my teeth, Eat breakfast,

Get dressed and start my day.

I thank the sun and his clouds

For not giving up on me.

    Blackberry Molasses

    Blackberry molasses

    Life can taste so sweet

But when you feel too weak

To lift the weight off your shoulders

    Remember God gave you,

    The strength to endure

    Storms and pain

    Even when that muscle

    In your chest tears apart

And you yearn for it to stop

    Give it time to recover,

    You’ll come back

    Stronger than before

Don’t let the rainstorms drown you

    And when the wind

    Makes you stumble

    Please, break your fall before

    You hit the asphalt

    Keep moving

The sun may feel like hell right now

    But remember

    When sun rays felt like,

    Warm silk

    On your skin

    Blackberry molasses

    Sweet moments will come after

    Bitter pain remember

    To forgive the past

but don’t run to it ever again

    Every little thing I Do

    The way you spin me,

    I’m surprised

    I’m not left upside down

    And dizzy

    This sensation you bring

    Makes me feel like

    I’m floating through the air,

    Flying through water,

    My grey world stopped

    Feeling normal

    Since your presence

    Restored its eternal color

    Sunny Daze

    Once you see the beauty

    In starting over,

Letting go will seem less painful

    You may think life

    Is upside down

    But it’s a chance

    To view it all

    From a different angle

    It’s okay to feel upset

    But don’t let that heart

    Burn with anger

this is far from the end

    Moving on is a blessing,

    When grief doesn’t kill

    A calm river can form

    Out of tormented tears

    When You Need Somebody

    Your tears have been flowing

    Into oceans lately

Must be hard to stay afloat

The way the waves of life

    Come crashing down on you

    They swallow you whole

Before you’re able to catch a breath

    I’ll part the sea

If you need to see clearly, again

When the weight of the water

    Gets too heavy to carry

    Hold on to me,

I’m here to guide you to where

    You need to be

I refuse to let you drown

    Power of Doubt

    You wanting me

as much as I want you

    Makes me kind of nervous

Like, am I actually worth it

    do I deserve it?

Before you, I felt worse than worthless

Now you have defined my purpose

Deeper than the core of the Earth is

    Now let me revert

    retract and think back

    Am I clouded by lust

Because this feeling is so new

    I can’t even trust

    So, I stress by second-guessing

    Wondering if you’re another lesson

    Or a blessing

But why ruin this beautiful moment

    By asking questions

    Just go with the flow

If It was meant to be,

    Time will let us know

    Eternal Bliss

    My beautiful friend

You came in and made life feel so new

Young at heart, old at soul

    The way our vibes intertwine

    We must’ve found love

    in another galaxy before

    A stargazer, soul amazing

    I marvel at you

As if I’m gazing at a golden moon

    Too good to be true

So surreal to be next to you

    My beautiful friend

My care for you is deep, endlessly

At peace with you by my side

    Never leave; continue to grow
