    About The Author

    Greetings to all,

My name is Kevin Thomas Parker, B.K.A. (Bionic). I'm an

A.S.C.A.P. registered music producer, songwriter, and audio engineer

with over 15 years of experience. I graduated fromThe Recording Connection

of California, but I did not start off that way! I began my journey

in audio back in 2008 when I started making beats/ instruments

on a laptop. This led to a desire to learn everything I could about music

production. I found plenty, but I noticed that most of the knowledge I

found was not in a curriculum format. In other words, there was no

clear order to learn things or a clearly defined list of things to learn.

Needless to say, going in on my own was a challenge I took on. I researched

terms, watched YouTube videos, read magazine articles, and

read blogs like mad to try and gain knowledge, and I only became so-so

at a few things but knew I was missing something. A MENTOR!

That thought led me to seek out formal instruction from an art

school, graduate from said school, and gain an internship at a professional

recording studio. I would then be offered a position as a recording

engineer and work as such for a few years while mentoring under

a talented mixing engineer, and finally, years and years after doing only

recording and mixing, I was fortunate to be taught a great deal of mastering

techniques from an experienced mastering engineer. I am now

the Co-Owner of Digital Media Publishing Company & Recording

    Studios Located in Florida, U.S.A.

    An Introduction to Audio Recording

    Chapter 1

    Introduction to Sound Recording:

What is a sound recording?: Sound recording is the technique of employing electronic devices to record and store audio signals. It enables the transformation of sound waves from any source into a persistent format that may be replayed at a later time. These recordings might include everything from musical performances and interviews to ambient noise and nature noises.

    What Makes a Sound Recording?

Microphone: Device that transforms sound waves into electrical impulses is the microphone. It takes in the acoustic energy and converts it into an analog electrical signal that the recording device can use as input. Condenser, dynamic, and ribbon microphones are just a few of the many types of microphones that are available; each has unique properties and applications.

Recording Device:The responsibility for receiving and storing the electrical signals from the microphone lies with the recording device. Analog tape recorders were used often in the past, but digital audio recorders and computer-based software programs are now more widely used. These devices use a technique known as analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) to transform the analog signals into a digital representation.

Storage Medium: The physical or digital location where the audio is kept is referred to as the storage medium. It could be a digital file format like MP3 or WAV, a magnetic tape, a CD, a hard drive, or even a compact disc (CD). The selection of a storage media is influenced by things like capacity, convenience, and intended application.

    The Sound Recording Process:

Pre-production: It's crucial to plan and get ready before a sound recording session. This entails picking the ideal microphone, taking
