About this ebook

It's one thing to build models from plastic, resin, wood or multimedia kits, but what if you want a model of something that doesn't exist as a kit? Then your only choice is a major conversion or full fledged scratchbuilt. If you've never tackled a scratchbuilt project, this ebook will walk you through the basic techniques of a relatively simple but interesting project that is applicable to 1/64 scale vehicle collections, farm models and even S-Gauge model railroads (S-Gauge is also 1/64 scale).

Back in 2009, my wife and I were in Dexter, New Mexico for Thanksgiving at her brother's. As it happened, there was a fairly large vehicle shed...basically a pole barn with one long side open...on the property. I took a couple of photos for reference and that was about it. A couple or three years later, I was brainstorming possible subjects for a monthly column I was writing and this shed surfaced. Since a reader had written in asking for information on working with plastic, I figured this was the perfect time to combine plastic techniques and material with scratchbuilding. And the vehicle shed would be an ideal subject.

While this project is focused on 1/64th scale, it's mainly because farm and ranch diecast equipment models tend to be that scale. For those of you who collect Hot Wheels, those are also primarily 1/64th, so this vehicle shed can be useful for just about everyone. If you need to build yours to a different scale, you might want to check out my ebook titled Understanding Model Math &
