Contemplating Scale

About three decades ago I took what was to turn out to be one of the really important steps in my development as a modeller and joined a local model railway club. The club in question was the Wyong and District Model Railway Club which still exists on the Central Coast of NSW and continues to accept new members.

In an alarmingly short space of time after joining I was voted in as Secretary of the club, an outcome I’d like to think arose from the self-evident qualities of good sense and reliability I possess, but I suspect had more to do with the fact that we were a very small club and no one else wanted the job! As the new broom, I tried not to let my newly acquired power go to my head, but I did set about establishing some records of club members because, upon rising to the lofty heights, I discovered there were no written records of who were current and financial members.

I seem to remember we were contemplating incorporating at the time and one of the requirements of this process was a record of membership. As a starting point, I handed out a single sheet of paper to each member asking them to fill out details of their contact information. This sheet also included a couple of basic survey questions asking for information about each member’s areas of modelling interest and chosen scale and gauge.?” one member by the name of Stephen wrote “!
