Chapter 1
First day of college
Today was my first day of college, and I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension.
Leaving behind the familiar high school environment, I wondered how different this new chapter would be.
As I stepped onto the campus, the grandeur of the Communications North building caught my attention. Its entrance branched out like a tree, leading to various English classrooms.
I had enrolled in elementary algebra, Introduction to C#, and a mandatory course called College Smarts, which supposedly aimed to teach organizational skills. With about thirty minutes until my first class, I decided to explore the campus and familiarize myself with its layout. Admittedly, I got lost a couple of times, but eventually stumbled upon a room that piqued my interest.
It was the school newspaper office, known as The Gossip. This was my chance to be part of something I had longed for in high school but never got accepted into. High school can be full of cliquey jerks, after all. However, I was determined to leave those experiences behind and make a fresh start.
I approached the room and knocked on the door. Initially, there was no response, but eventually, someone opened it. The person appeared to be one of the professors at the college.
Hi, can I help you?
he asked politely.
Hello, I'm new to this college, and I noticed that the school has a newspaper. I'm interested in joining,
I replied eagerly.
Excellent! Come on in,
he said with a welcoming smile.
I entered the production room, which, to my surprise, was not as spacious as I had imagined. There were two tables adorned with iMacs, a professor's desk, a cozy couch, a coffee table, and two whiteboards. One whiteboard displayed various awards, while the other showcased the layout of the paper.
The professor handed me an application and asked, Would you like to fill it out here?
Sure,
I agreed, appreciating the opportunity.
You can use this desk,
he said, pointing to his own.
Thank you,
I responded and settled down at the desk. I diligently completed the application to the best of my ability and handed it back to him.
The application consisted of basic information such as my school ID number, first and last name, and a couple of recommendations (I mentioned Tammy and Carrie). Thankfully, they didn't require my social security number.
Thanks! We're actually having a meeting tonight at six o'clock, so you're welcome to join us,
the professor informed me.
A meeting already? Perhaps it was regarding the upcoming edition of the paper.
Okay, thanks!
I replied, feeling a renewed sense of anticipation. Have a good day.
You too,
he said with a nod.
Chapter 2
At 5:45, I made my way to the production room, a mix of nerves and excitement coursing through me. What would this experience be like? Would they accept me for my flamboyant nature? I couldn't help but entertain the thought of finding a potential boyfriend among the group. But then again, I reminded myself not to be like Tammy, always yearning for a boyfriend at the slightest
