David J. Bodner Sr. : As a young lad from upstate New York, David's father gave him a set of Hickory-shafted clubs. He had learned his game from the ground-up practicing at the near-by Mechanicville Golf Club. David has designed, developed and presently manufactures - on a small scale - the American-Made "Loft Below Equator" putter (LBE). The web site is: lbeputters.com.He has also authored the book "Golf: Learn to Play and Have Fun" in order to fill in and clarify the void of the many confusing details for golfers wanting to learn and play the game of golf. As a fellow golfer he has found that there is a dearth of instruction that can be overwhelming, confusing and yet compatible all at the same time.Instructors of the past and present are often saying the same things and, at the same time, different things to describe individual techniques that David attempts to clarify. As a teacher for 34 years in Amsterdam, NY his talents to describe and explain difficult details qualify him as a good source of information and a man who wants golf to be enjoyed by all.David's current home is in Pass Christian, Mississippi where he and his wife enjoy the Mississippi Coast and many days of golf year-round.

I am very blessed to have been able to enjoy the game of golf provided to us, all, by God’s magnificent and wonderful landscape of nature; …and to be in, reasonably, good health for my venture throughout my life.

All golf courses offer individual challenges that inspire us to play and enjoy; whether they be sandy, wet, hilly, flat, etc. We may be, as I have been, lucky enough to find a time and place to improve our swings and techniques in the simple effort to be just a little-bit better the next day. We are like a musician wandering and wanting to improve the melody of our last song, …not being satisfied until a smile appears on our face.

I am lucky, astonished and thankful for my wife, Linda, and her love. I am amazed and grateful for the miraculous and astounding connection of love we have had the good fortune to share. She is the star that Sparkles for me all day long; and when she simply looks my way I am in heaven.

In our golfing and informational-world we are all fortunate that we have access to easy knowledge. Sometimes the amount is confusing, but it is there and available. Older golfers of a different time had to learn their games from the ground up. I have learned and tested much information, as all golfers do, via; books, magazine articles, internet and videos, …plus golfing partners and my neighbor next-door.

I am also thankful that this wonderful game of golf allows us to have the hope of just one more round the next day; …and throughout a person’s lifetime.

No matter the type of person you are, or the age you find yourself in we are all fortunate to be able to enjoy the game of golf at our own level of play, via the U.S.G.A.’s Handicapping System. With it, I and any player, of any skill-level and on any landscape of God’s beautiful nature can enjoy our walk together.

    Introduction:

Golf Swing: 6 Parts and 3 Golf Swing Methods

Repetition of accuracy is what the proficient golfer relies upon in order to regularly play consistent golf.

There are three golf swing methods that a golfer ought to incorporate within the scheme of his, or her thinking; for accuracy and consistency to occur.

Within each of these three swing methods there are at least six major parts that the golfer should, also, be aware of. These six parts are to be used; and sequenced in the correct order to produce an effective golf swing; and are to be, wisely, used within the framework of 3 golf swing methods.

As always: Understanding is first and often puzzling; Experimenting, the most fun, Practicing, along with drudgery, is second; and Patience and kindness to one’s self, third.

The Beginner, The Proficient, and The Expert:

    The Beginner:

The beginning golfer may learn and use some of these six parts, …some more than others…, and incorporate them into their swings to develop a workable game. They may travel along, quite nicely, and run into a world of wonder, with the ups and downs that the game has to offer. Once in a while running into its greatness and totally enjoying the sights, this golfer has the opportunity to grasp the amazing things they are exposed to. No longer will they be simply thinking of the game of golf as a game, where one has to just hit a little ball and go chasing after it.

    The Proficient Golfer:

The proficient golfer will understand most of these 6 parts and incorporate them into a consistent and reliable pattern that will be personal and repeatable. Only commitment to particular shots and small confusions of their execution will interrupt this golfer’s performance. They too will enjoy this game and begin to find another level of performance well beyond what they first thought. They will be finding a new course to set their ship’s compass to and set their sails to seek new golfing worlds set before them.

    The Expert Golfer:

The expert golfer, at the highest level, will understand all 6 parts and will have practiced them within repeatable and personal patterns to achieve spectacular and consistent results. Commitment to this expert golfer’s shots will be usual and almost constant. By correctly employing the six parts within the framework of one of their three swing methods, they have chosen; they will be the best that they can be. They will want to test and find fun in testing themselves before their greatest challengers: the plethora of golf-courses in the world and the particular one set before them.

In addition, they will find calm and happy enjoyment in sharing their competence with others; …this so they may carry their enjoyment and skills on to others; so, they too may play together within a competition controlled by a handicapping system that allows all to play, competitively, and on a fair playing field, together.

An important point to make for this expert golfer is that even though they are excellent in their performance, they know that on any one round of golf over 18 holes; they consider themselves lucky if one or two shots came off the way they intended.

    Yet Another Group Exists:

Another type of golfer is one who analyses and observes so much that he can become a dependable resource and one who is quite a good and bold golfer in his own right. These golfers, like myself, become writers!

    The Wonder of Golf:

The wonder of golf is: We can all aspire to be the best that we can be; and that: with a smile and a jovial attitude; that will always be good enough.

We are, indeed, fortunate that we are allowed, by the powers up above, to seek and find the enjoyment, offered to us in a world of beauty and challenges.

    Chapter 1:

    The Six Parts

Part 1: The Whole Body as a Unit

All of the golfer’s body, combined together as a total unit is the first part to consider.

This total-unit understanding is composed of two sub-parts: the upper body and the lower body.

The mind controls these parts and needs information that it can rely upon to perform swing patterns with consistency and confidence.

With proper understanding, practice and repetition the mind and body can work together to perform consistent, accurate and correct maneuvers automatically. When the mind is uncluttered with question marks, the body is allowed to move unimpeded.

Often people arrogantly and mistakenly consider that they have a natural understanding of their general body and swing; enough to feel confident without actually seeking a better understanding. Certainly, this is partially possible and all that is needed to have fun within the framework of this mesmerizing game they call golf.

A generalized understanding of how the total body functions during a golf swing may be all that is needed with a touch of physical talent. However, more knowledge added to a total and generalized swing will lend itself to a more proficient and reliable swing.

On the other hand, it is easy to understand that too much detail may overwhelm the learner seeking generalized knowledge; …but the golfer who wishes to go beyond their generalized notions will eventually be rewarded with the proficiency and consistency that a pure and repeatable golf swing deserves.

Regardless of other detailed knowledge; the understanding of the total body as a whole unit, working within a general swing pattern, is a beginning; and a somewhat necessary place to start.

There are a lot of parts to consider, understand and correctly choose from when developing your own swing. Consider what is happening at the point of impact.

The Upper Body (Head, Spine and Hips)

The upper body part turns around the spine over two hips and two legs. It is important, therefore, to recognize that the spine is located along the golfer’s back and is centered in-between the hips below. Therefore, where the hips go the lower spine, also, goes.

The hips do, also, turn around the centered spine and with a timing of their own. The lower spine stays between the hips and moves or twists within the center of the hips.

The upper spine, however, can wander and move about in a variety of ways, but, nonetheless, it is a good idea to keep the relationship of the upper spine and lower spine working together.

On a good swing the hips slide laterally left, to begin the downswing. The spine stays straight at the angle they were tilted to, …and when the hips slide left.

By sliding the hips left-ward the lower spine also moves laterally left. This causes the upper spine to tilt down to the right, and stay back. This lateral movement of the lower spine
