The Librarian Turned Me Gay
By Dakota Altar
It was a typical Tuesday afternoon when Jack decided to take a stroll over to the library. As he browsed through the history section, he noticed a cute guy with glasses examining the books on the shelf beside him. Jack couldn't help but steal a few glances, admiring the way his eyes scanned the titles and the way his lips curved into a smile every time he found something interesting.
After several minutes of pretending to read the titles, Jack finally mustered up the courage to strike up a conversation. Do you need any help finding anything?
he asked, noticing the other guy jump slightly at the sound of his voice.
Oh, no thank you,
the guy replied, turning to face Jack with a genuine smile. I'm just browsing for now.
Jack nodded, trying to think of something else to say. Well, I'm Jack,
he offered, holding out his hand in greeting.
The other guy took his hand and shook it firmly. I'm Ethan,
he replied, his voice smooth and confident.
They chatted for a few more minutes about their favorite books and authors before Jack sheepishly asked if Ethan would like to get coffee with him sometime.
Ethan smiled, his eyes lighting up. I would love that,
he said, before quickly scribbling his phone number onto a scrap of paper and handing it to Jack.
Over the next few weeks, Jack and Ethan met several more times for coffee and conversation. They discussed everything from their jobs to their favorite movies, and Jack found himself getting more and more enamored with Ethan's charm and intelligence.
After their third coffee date, Jack realized that he was developing feelings for Ethan. He didn't know if Ethan felt the same way, but he couldn't stop thinking about him. So, during their next meeting, he decided to take a chance and confess how he felt.
Ethan, I need to tell you something,
Jack began nervously, his hands shaking slightly as he held his coffee cup.
Ethan looked up from his own cup and met Jack's gaze. What is it?
he asked, concern etched into his features.
I think I... I think I might be falling for you,
Jack admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan's eyes widened in surprise before a smile spread across his face. Well, I think I might be falling for you too,
he replied, his voice soft and sincere.
Relief flooded through Jack, and he couldn't help but let out a sigh of happiness. Really?
he asked, grinning from ear to ear.
Really,
Ethan confirmed, before leaning in to give Jack a kiss that sent chills down his spine.
As they pulled away, Jack knew that his chance encounter with Ethan in the library had changed the course of his life forever. And he couldn't wait to see where their unexpected love story would lead them.
Ethan sat nervously at the dinner table with his parents. He had been anticipating coming out to them for weeks, and now that he was finally doing it, he couldn't believe how hard it was. His father sat stoically, staring at his plate of food while his mother fidgeted in her seat.
Ethan, what is it?
His mother asked tentatively.
Ethan took a deep breath and looked at both of his parents. I'm gay,
he said firmly.
There was a long silence at the table as his parents processed the information. Finally, his father spoke up. You know we don't believe in that kind of thing,
he said gruffly.
Ethan felt a pang of hurt in his chest. He had known his parents wouldn't take the news well, but he still had hoped for some form of understanding. He looked over at Jack, who was sitting next to him and reached for his hand under the table. Jack squeezed his hand reassuringly.
I know you don't, Dad,
Ethan said softly. But this is who I am, and I can't change that.
His mother looked at him with tears in her eyes. We just want you to be happy, Ethan,
she said. Are you happy?
Ethan nodded, tears also streaming down his own face. Yes, Mom. I'm with someone who makes me very happy.
His father snorted. Who is this person?
he asked.
Ethan gulped. He had debated whether or not to bring Jack up during this conversation, but he knew he couldn't keep his relationship a secret forever. His name is Jack,
he said softly. He's my boyfriend.
There was another long silence at the table before his father slammed his fists on the table. I won't stand for this!
he yelled. I won't tolerate this kind of behavior in my house!
Jack stood up, ready to defend Ethan, but Ethan put his hand on his arm, signaling him to stay seated. Dad, Jack is a wonderful person,
he said calmly. I understand that this might be hard for you to accept, but I hope that eventually, you can come to understand and support me.
His mother looked at him with pained eyes. We love you, Ethan,
she said softly. We just don't understand this.
Ethan sighed. He knew that this conversation wasn't going to change his parents' beliefs overnight, but he still had to try. I love you too, Mom and Dad,
he said. I just hope that eventually, you can see that love has no boundaries.
With that, Ethan stood up and walked out of the house, feeling a sense of relief and sadness wash over him. Jack followed him outside and wrapped his arms around him.
I'm sorry that didn't go as well as you had hoped,
Jack said softly.
Ethan shook his head. It's okay,
he said, wiping the tears from his eyes. I knew it was going to be hard. I just hope that someday they can accept me for who I am.
Jack kissed him gently on the forehead. I accept you for who you are,
he said. And that's all that matters.
Ethan smiled at him, feeling lucky to have someone like Jack in his life. Thank you,
he said. For being here and supporting me. I don't know what I would do without you.
Jack pulled him into a tight hug. You don't have to do anything without me,
he said fiercely. I'm always going to be here for you.
Ethan closed his eyes and leaned into Jack's embrace, feeling grateful for the love
