How To Care Your Hair - Ángelo Cervantes

    Chapter 1

    General care

    ––––––––

Whether curly, straight, fine, frizzy, colored, or wild, we celebrate individuality! So that you can give your hair exactly the care it needs, here are valuable tips for healthy hair.

Hair is like skin. What you really need depends mainly on the type of hair. However, there are certain things your hair and scalp in general don't like and things they'll thank you for with a healthy glow, at least if you follow my care tips regularly. Of course, there will be the famous bad hair day, but with proper care, good hair days will predominate. But first, let's take a look at the structure of the hair before moving on to the do's and don'ts:

    ––––––––

    The structure of the hair

Hair is made up of the stem and the root of the hair. The part that is visible is the shaft, which we refer to as our hair. Each is made up of three layers: cuticle, cortex, and medulla.

The outermost layer, also known as the cuticle, is made up of dead cells. Healthy hair with an intact cuticle shines so beautifully in the light because the horn platelets lie flat, similar to a pineapple. If light falls on the hair, it reflects off the cuticle and the hair shines. If the cuticle is rough, the hair looks dull, knots quickly, and split ends can often be seen.

Most of the hair is made up of the second layer, the fiber (cortex). It consists of fine keratin fibers. A kind of cement substance connects the fibers and makes them elastic and resistant to tearing. This layer plays a crucial role in chemical treatments such as bleaching or perming. Inside is the medulla, also called the medullary canal. This layer does not influence hair care.

It pays to take good care of your hair because once the cuticle is attacked, anti-split end products can only repair the protruding horn platelets until the next hair wash. Unfortunately, just going to the salon helps with split ends. With our care tips, you can easily prevent dryness and split ends.

    Tips for proper hair care:

Tip 1: wash your hair properly

For many people, washing their hair is part of their daily care routine. But how often should you wash your hair? In most cases, doing it every two to three days is enough, especially if the scalp and hair are very dry. Using a quick relubrication approach, hair can be washed daily with a mild shampoo if you're just comfortable with fresh fluffy hair.

But: The sebum from the sebaceous gland of the scalp has an important function. It sits like a delicate protective film on the skin and prevents the penetration of pathogens and harmful substances. It also keeps the scalp and hair supple. Washing your hair too frequently with shampoos with strong degreasing surfactants or other potentially irritating ingredients, such as fragrances or chemical preservatives, can alter the delicate protective film and unbalance the scalp.

As a rule, it is enough to wash the scalp with shampoo. The lengths and tips are sufficiently cleaned by rinsing. Unless you've been mud wrestling or left the oil treatment on overnight, the lengths and ends should, of course, be washed as well.

Avoid too hot water, it defeats the skin and makes the hair swell. Even if it takes a bit of effort: warm water is kinder to hair and skin, and your ancillary costs and the environment also benefit from lower energy consumption.

    ––––––––

Tip 2: use conditioner for healthy hair

A conditioner provides extra shine and flexibility at the end of hair care. The cuticle is closed due to the slightly acidic pH of the product. Nourishing ingredients like organic coconut oil and organic shea butter are also shown to be environmentally friendly. As well as being silky smooth, the conditioner also contains a vegetable wax that protects the hair right down to the ends, making it less susceptible to split ends and dryness.

If your scalp is dry and your hair is thick or frizzy, you can apply the conditioner to your hairline as well. For fine hair, apply only to lengths and ends, then rinse with lukewarm water.

Colored or bleached hair is particularly sensitive because the chemical treatment loosens the cuticle. Therefore, chemically treated hair should always be cared for with a conditioner after washing.
