The Glass Ceiling
A Detective Ahmed Mystery Short Story
Wind whistled past the grimy window stained with hundreds of specks of dirt that marked the view into Detective Ahmed Hakeem’s dingy, darkened office. The night was in full flow, blackness swirling amongst the starless heavens, and Ahmed sat at his desk, glancing at the stack of bills for the next month. The taste of bankruptcy flooded his mouth—an unsettling tinge of dryness upon his tongue.
Nothing more today?
his assistant, Yunus Amir, said, strolling through the bathroom door and slumping into his chair ten feet to Ahmed’s left. Yunus didn’t even have his own desk, instead stationing himself at a coffee table, with papers and files strewn all over the place.
As if there was anything in the first place,
