Detective Ahmed Hakeem stood along Tower Millenium Pier dredged up on the south side of East London, his eyes prodding the eerie darkness shifting across the sky like the black tide at night. A sigh pushed through his clasped lips, and his shoulders hunched as if the starless sky above weighed itself down on him.

I’ve got information on the murder, Yunus Amir, Ahmed's assistant, said. A scent reminiscent of a butcher's slaughterhouse accompanied Yunus tearing a notebook from his jacket and flicking it open. He landed on the very last page, as if the notebook mimicked their ragged, final attempt at solving the case.
