    Introduction

The graveyard is the richest place on earth because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry out their dream. –Les Brown

We are under so much pressure to be something. No one can tell us what that something is, who that someone should be, and how to be that person. And if you have a family of high-achievers—generations of doctors or lawyers working in the family corporation—this pressure can be immense and can lead to challenges that include deviant behavior and mental health issues.

We are often told to dream big, reach for the stars, that we can do anything we set our mind to, that there’s a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow… What we are not told is that to do this is to cost us blood, sweat, tears, and relationships. What we are not told is that there will be obstacles and challenges that will deter us. What we are not told is that dreams can change and that goals are fluid. We are not told that when life happens, things don’t go according to plan, and we need to have a Plan B. We are not taught that obstacles can break us down emotionally, physically, and mentally. And we are not taught that challenges can make us better people.

As children, we are taught that confrontation is wrong, that you shouldn’t celebrate your wins because it will make your friend feel bad, and that there are no winners or losers. Every child is given a consolation prize because of fairness and equality, to protect the emotions of all the children and spare the adults the responsibility of consoling them. Everyone is spared the responsibility of achieving the coveted spot, the top tier on the podium, from needing to choose a winner. No one wants to be the bad guy.

In this book, you will learn why it's important to achieve more than to compete, to find the superstar inside yourself by adapting your knowledge, skills, and abilities to your life situations, and to be the best person you can be. You will learn what the possible challenges are, why they occur, and how you can overcome them. It will help you see the importance of taking care of yourself, physically and mentally, to ensure that you are capable of facing anything that comes your way. It will also help you understand what went wrong, why you’ve failed, and how you can fix it if it can be fixed.

This book will also be an honest interaction between you, your present, and the future you. It will help you assess your current situation and how to make the adaptations to shape the future you want. Moreover, it will guide you to making a Plan B and teach you the difference between overcompensating, overachieving, and being well-prepared.

Furthermore, this work will empower you to accept your flaws, be tolerant of your shortcomings, and have compassion and empathy for the struggles of others. It will help you identify what those shortcomings are and how to adjust your internal conversation to become more positive in your actions. This will assist you to navigate every situation you encounter as your internal conversation determines how you manage a challenge that makes you feel less confident but that you are capable of overcoming.

    Chapter 1: No One’s Perfect

There’s no need to be perfect to inspire others. Let people get inspired by how you deal with your imperfections. –Zaid K. Abdelnour

There is no such thing as perfect. Perfection is an idealized form of life that is propagated by media, television, and the internet. It is often popularized by a movie showing the character having a lightbulb moment and being able to fix their mistakes within hours, a scenario that might imitate real life. But the reality is that not every relationship can be fixed with a fancy dinner or a deal with an assassin for that annoying family member.

There is no perfect person, job, relationship, house, car,
