    Report #1

Hello, I’m Eric, and I experienced a startling incident with a few of my high school buddies. It taught me never to go anywhere near abandoned buildings again—unless heavily armed.

I grew up in the charming town of Vernon, Vermont. If you’re unfamiliar with it, picture a quiet location where all houses have plenty of space between one another. Several generations of my family spent their whole lives in that town, but I broke the tradition. My desire to live and work in a big city was too great. It’s not that I didn’t have many great friends and beautiful memories; I just wanted to experience something more. And the revelation that there was a frightening beast that lived a few towns over didn’t do anything to encourage me to stay in the area, especially if I eventually decided I wanted to have children.

Northfield is another nearby town comparable to Vernon, rich with nature, cornfields, and plenty of woodlands to explore. Additionally, my best friend, Brandon, had moved there right before high school, and I spent many of my weekends and holiday breaks there. It wasn’t only because of him but also because he had a sister in the grade below us, and I formed the biggest crush on her. Her name was Elsa, and she seemed to grow prettier by the day. But since I was somewhat of an insecure teenager, I did all I could to keep those feelings secret, hoping that one day she would be the one to ask me out or reveal that she had a thing for me. To potentially get to that step, I knew I needed to impress her, and I took up any opportunity to do so.

One night when I was sleeping over at Brandon’s, we all stayed up late, probably after drinking a ton of caffeinated soda.
