    When Alexander walked into the grand ballroom, he knew he was out of his element. He had never seen so many opulent dresses, sparkling jewels, and snooty aristocrats in one place before.

    As a commoner, he had never been invited to such an event. But he had been given a chance to attend as a server, and he had jumped on the opportunity. The pay was good, and the thrill of being around all this lavishness was too enticing to resist.

    That is when he saw him. The king. He stood amongst his subjects, tall and imposing, with his regal outfit and even more regal expression on his face. Alexander had heard of him, of course. Who hadn't? But he had never seen him in person before.

    For some reason Alexander couldn't explain, he couldn't take his eyes off the king. As he was passing by, he caught the king's eyes on him.

    The king quirked his eyebrows in surprise, then turned away.

    Alexander was taken aback. Was it possible the king had been checking him out?

    He willed the thought away, knowing it was foolish. The king was probably just taken aback by a commoner serving at the ball.
