About this ebook
Getting a new business off the ground can be tricky, especially for newcomers and for others who are not newcomers it can be a downright disaster. The majority of small businesses collapse in the first few years of operation and sadly, it is caused from mistakes that could have been easily avoided. So, if you have plans to launch a new business, then there are some common pitfalls that may drag you down.
It is one thing to chase success and it is quite another to chase the trappings of material wealth. Just because you can upgrade your car and afford that designer suit does not mean that you are successful. You cannot buy your way to happiness – and trying to do so will only leave you feeling empty. This is also a quick way to get yourself in debt, and this can impact your business in the long run.
Before you launch your venture, write down what success truly means to you and bear that in mind as you aim for it.

Acknowledgements
In my quest for finding information to include in this book, I had the opportunity to speak with a number of business owners who did not want to be identified in person.
This book speaks about exercising humility even in the face of success. To be fair, I offered to include even a reference to their business and they refused. However, they were very willing to share and offer advice on some of the material contained in this book. To them I say thanks.
Preface
Numerous articles and books have been written on how to become a successful entrepreneur. While these articles and books may differ in content, the central themes are similar in terms of areas that are important to become successful. Most authors do agree that leadership and financial education are important. As a consequence, there are differing views on how to make this happen, whether the entrepreneur is the one who should be monitoring these areas or whether individuals need to be employed to oversee these areas.
For the small entrepreneur, there may not be budgetary allocation for the different areas of focus. It is therefore the responsibility of the entrepreneur to make sure that the synergies in these areas are in sync with the successful operation of their business.
You will recognize some of what is represented here. The objective is to provide the information in a way that allows individuals to think like an entrepreneur if they are considering becoming one.
Every effort has been made to make this book as complete and accurate as possible. However, there may be mistakes in typography or content. Also, this book provides information only up to the publishing date. Therefore, this book should be used as a guide - not as the ultimate source.
In this book, the author has compiled a number of tips along with 23 key traits of the successful entrepreneur that will influence you becoming a better entrepreneur. They are presented in very short chapters to maintain some form of organization and structure. Included also are suggested websites and a reading list with books that have proved beneficial to many in their quest for success.
These are insightful tips that very few people, and albeit very few aspiring entrepreneurs, focus on. With these tips, you will be equipped with some powerful insights that will help you pave your way towards success.
The tips are written in simple English and are geared towards the layman or those who are new to being an entrepreneur. The author avoided using business terminology to make sure that this book will be easily understood. The material is also presented in a logical and easy-to-understand manner.
The purpose of this book is to educate. The author does not warrant that the information contained in this book is fully complete and shall not be responsible for any errors or omissions. The author and publisher shall have neither liability nor responsibility to any person or entity with respect to any loss or damage caused or alleged to be caused directly or indirectly by this book.

Many people will start a business because of a need to make money quickly. Very often this leads to them taking an opportunity-based approach to being an entrepreneur where they identify market needs and provide viable solutions that enough consumers are willing and able to purchase.
Yes, as an entrepreneur, you have the land of milk and honey, one of risk and reward – one that completely shakes off the traditional boundaries of work. There is no boss hovering over your shoulder to tell you how to do your job or to dictate how long a particular project should take or to set your hours. There are many advantages to being an entrepreneur – it's the freedom you've been craving. However, this freedom is often accompanied with potential pitfalls just waiting to happen.
