The environmental issue is not a recent event, it has evolved over the years and is still seen as a burden in the eyes of many businessmen and industry employees.
The concern with the environment became more pronounced after the industrial revolution in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, where the replacement of the conventional labor of the time, that is, manual labor, handmade, and replaced by machines.
According to Virtuous Information Technology, (2019), England was the pioneer in the industrial revolution, by having a privileged location by the sea, making transportation easier. For having one of the most important areas of commerce and possessing an influential bourgeoisie. Initially, the revolution remained in England. After 1860 industrialization spread through countries like Germany, France, and Russia. At that time, renewable and non-renewable mineral resources began to be used in a more recurring and uncontrolled way.
The use of steel, the use of electric power and petroleum-derived fuels, the invention of the motor to the explosion; the steam locomotive and the development of chemical products were the main innovations. Information Technology, (2019).
The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment took place in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1972, focusing on environmental issues related to the ecosystem in general (fauna and flora, pollution of the seas and oceans).
Twenty years after the Stockholm Conference, Gro Harlem Brundland, representative of the World Commission on Environment and Development, published a report known as Our Common Future,
which brings the concept of sustainable development to the public. The recommendations made in this report led to the holding of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development In 1992, in Rio de Janeiro. This Conference gave rise to Agenda 21.
In this document, protective actions regarding the environment were described.
In Agenda 21, governments outlined a detailed program of action to move the world away from the current unsustainable model of economic growth by targeting activities that protect and renew the environmental resources on which growth and development depend. Areas of action include protecting the atmosphere; combating deforestation, soil loss and desertification; prevent pollution of water and air; halt the destruction of fish stocks and promote the safe management of toxic waste. UN (2018).
These actions arose after countries diverged between the growth of underdeveloped countries, the form of action of developed countries and the concern about the lack of natural resources, which directly or indirectly addresses growth and industrial production.
The Kyoto Protocol was a treaty signed in 1997 in Kyoto, Japan, which sets mandatory targets for 37 industrialized countries to reduce greenhouse gases.
As a result of these meetings and agreements, other major conferences took place, such as Rio + 10, which occurred in South Africa in 2002, Rio + 20, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2012.
The UN (2018) reports the most recent meeting in New York in 2015 at its headquarters, where new sustainable development goals were set. The document is known as the "Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. According to the UN, no country will be left out and, despite the deadline stipulated for 2030, the measures have already begun. On page 22, the document highlights topics for growth in a strong, inclusive and transformative economy, including innovation, investments, sustainable and resilient infrastructure in the industrialization of small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition to investments in technologies so that both can produce employment and remedy negative environmental impacts. In general,
Agenda 2030" supports the development of the private industrial sector, in the fields of job creation, social projects, inclusion and investments related to the company’s sustainability.
These events are a milestone in environmental issues and have helped in the creation of new laws and standards so
