The recommendations made in this report led to the holding of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development In 1992, in Rio de Janeiro. This Conference gave rise to Agenda 21.

In this document, protective actions regarding the environment were described.

Areas of action include protecting the atmosphere; combating deforestation, soil loss and desertification; prevent pollution of water and air; halt the destruction of fish stocks and promote the safe management of toxic waste.
