CHAPTER ONE
I
t was chilly, I could feel the wind on my skin as the last star faded in the sky. I wrapped my hands around my body, not from the cold, just a reflex action. I didn’t need it but the action seemed more human somewhat. At least to me. I sat and stared at the sky, a million thoughts flying through my head. It was hard to be different, too hard on most days. It was choking too, especially when everyone else saw things differently. That when I met him, on one of the nights where my thoughts went ahead of me, and turned into something else. Abel was his name, and he was fiercer than most people could imagine. We were in an African American werewolf camp, where various packs came together for the betterment of the werewolf community. Sometimes, it was posturing but I wasn’t perturbed, it made me realize my visions in small scale. Being a werewolf of around 5’7 inches, some would call me a pipsqueak due to how most of the werewolves grow like reeds. I loved my hair though, the sheer fullness of it, the thickness. Abel was… fiery. With his hair in locs, he was quite the dashing figure. When I first met him, he bared his fangs at me, staring at our leader, TJ. TJ was a visionary, he looked strangely suspicious of him.
Do you buy into anything he says? I don’t trust it.
Abel said out loud, which surprised me. That was the first time I was meeting him, a dark skinned boy with eyes that stared into a person’s soul. He wasn’t looking at me per se, he was looking through me. I was there but yet I wasn’t. The blackness of his hair seemed to bring out his eyes, accentuating the intensity to an alarming degree. I couldn’t look away from such a fine specimen before me.
What don’t you trust? I’m Jackie by the way,
I said, introducing myself to the intense boy who was staring daggers at TJ. TJ was our
