About this ebook

The reality is, few believers have the time to search God's truths in the Bible, with its array of subjects (teachings). Therefore, handbooks on God's divine truths (Scripture) from the Bible are useful tools to do away with the tedious work--searching through the pages for specific teachings in the Bible. But a word of caution, handbooks are not written with the intend to deter one from studying one's own Bible, but to use as a tool (reference) alongside one's Bible--as one seeks God's truths in the Scriptures with the Holy Spirit's help (Jo. 14:26) and using spiritual discernment to study God's word ( 1Cor. 2:14; 2Tim. 3:16). This book also serves the same purpose, a reference tool, to help those who want easier access to specific teachings in the Bible. For example, and presented in this book, the origin of evil is in the Bible, yet it can be time-consuming to search through the Bible for the teachings on the origin of evil if one has limited time on hand. In this book, one will find a useful commentary, written in layman's terms that will give a step-by-step approach on the teaching on the origin of evil from the Bible--What is evil's origin? And why evil exist?--As well as the other teachings from the Bible presented in this book. The truth is when a repented sinner is saved through the Lord Jesus Christ (Jo. 3:16, 17), God's intentions for His children (in Christ) is to become knowledgeable on His divine teachings in the Bible. Yet there are those who are not familiar with the divine teachings in the Bible and may believe it isn't necessary to study God's truths (Scripture), as long as one is saved (Jo. 3:16, 17; Ro. 10:9, 10; 2Tim. 1:9, 10). But that isn't so, according to the Bible, for example, if a believer is going to carry his cross to follow Jesus (Mt. 10:38), then he needs to understand what he is up against--his spiritual warfare against evil spirits in the world (Eph. 6:12) in order to remain steadfast in the faith and overcome the day of evil, when forced upon him (Eph. 6:13). And according to the Scriptures, one needs to know God (Jo. 17:3) in order for one to know His will for a believer's life; and the only way to know the true God is with the Holy Spirit's help (Jo. 14:26), and this is also taught in the Bible--the importance of the Holy Spirit and the Scriptures in a believer's life (Gal. 5:25; 2Tim. 3:16). And if a believer is to follow Jesus Christ's example here on earth, then he needs to learn what the Scriptures teach about the Son of God, Jesus Christ ( 1Pe. 2: 21). In fact, the more knowledge one gets studying about the teachings on God and His specific attributes (love, mercy, justice, etc.) and His other divine truths on prayer, faith, works, and stewardship (Phil. 4:6; Jas. 2:14-26; 1 Pe. 4:10) etc. in the Bible, one may become better equipped, with the Holy Spirit's help and God's word, to face the challenges in life, through the Lord Jesus Christ. May God's truths from the Bible, presented in this book, enrich and enlighten one's life today and onward for God's glory. As for all interpretations of God's word in any book, including this one, please carefully compare with the Scriptures (2 Tim. 3:16) and use spiritual discernment ( 1Cor. 2:14) with the Holy Spiritual help, then one will not be misguided but enlighten to understand God's divine teachings from the Holy Scriptures. May one seek wisdom from God today (Jas. 1:5-7).

    Preface

Looking for important teachings in the Bible can be a challenging endeavor for one to undertake. Therefore, handbooks or guidebooks on specific teachings in the Bible are useful to lessen this tedious work. Hopefully, this book may serve the same purpose—a handbook with easy access to God's divine teachings in the Bible. For instance, in the Bible, there are numerous teachings beneficial for one's (saved) own enlightenment for his (or her) spiritual growth in the Lord and for one's calling (ministry) on earth (Ro. 12:11; 2Tim. 3:16, 17). The following teachings from the Bible are some examples—such as, discipleship and stewardship (Mt. 28:16–20; Lk. 16:1–13; Gal. 6:9, 10), instructions on righteous living (Ro. 8:1–14; 2Tim. 3:16), and the importance to walk daily with the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:25) in order to keep one (saved) from following after sin (Ro. 8:13–15; Gal. 5:16). Then there are other teachings mutually beneficial toward the spiritual growth for a believer such as understanding the teachings on God, His Divinity—the Godhead (Mt. 28:18, 19; Ro. 1:20), and His specific attributes (Ex. 34:6, 7; Lev. 19:2; Job Chaps. 38–42; Ps., etc.), then His divine purpose for creating, the Creation Act, that is presented in this book, as well as other teachings in the Bible—such as, the origin of evil, the creation of angels and after the fall of angels in heaven (2Pe. 2:4; Jude 6), and then the creation of the first man and the first woman and after when they both sinned against God for eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Gen. 2:17; Chap. 3), then about redemption and eternal life through the Son of God (Jo. 3:16, 17; Ro. 10:9, 10; 2Tim. 1: 9, 10), or judgment and eternal death—those not written in the Book of Life (Phil. 4:3; Re. 20:12, 15). Such examples just mentioned and many other teachings (Scripture) will also be examine in this book—for the spiritual growth of believers that haven't had the opportunity to undertake such teachings, divine truths, that are in the Bible—for one's betterment and enrichment with his daily walk with God. However a word of concern, this book is not meant to replace one's own Bible but to use as a handy tool for looking for specific truths (teachings) in the Bible. This book is also written in laymen's terms. Therefore, it shouldn't be difficult for one to read; however, all Scriptures are spiritually discerned (1Cor. 2:14). Therefore, one needs the Holy Spirit's help (Jo. 14:26; 1Cor. 2:10–14) in order to receive understanding from God's divine truth in the Bible, as said, are also presented in this book. It is also important to have a Bible handy in order to make inquiries, cross references, and to check footnotes etc. in this book, if one so desire, but it is recommended. Now if one happens to be an unbeliever, not save in Jesus Christ (Jo. 3:16) but desires to understand the divine truths in the Bible (to examine in this book), then God is known to give one wisdom (Jas. 1:5) in order that he (or she) might receive salvation through His Son Jesus Christ (Jo. 3:16, 17; Ro. 10:9, 10; 2Tim. 1:9, 10) after examining the divine truths from the Scriptures. When the apostle Peter and the others (followers of Jesus Christ) received the Holy Spirit, the Advent, on the Day of Pentecost, many Jews etc. gathered that day in Jerusalem to observe the Jewish religious feast (Acts 2:1–5), Peter began to speak boldly to the crowd, and after hearing the apostle's message on Jesus Christ etc., about 3000 souls that day were saved (Acts 2:14–41). So seek wisdom from God today (Jas. 1:5). There is one more request. The truths (Bible) in this book takes time to undertake, so please avoid rushing through this book. And once again, seek the Holy Spirit's help (Jo. 14:26) to receive divine enlightenment when examining God's divine truths (Scripture) from the Bible (2Tim. 3:16; 1Cor. 2:10–14). And by doing so, with the Spirit's help, one won't go away disappointed but, instead, blessed and enriched by the Holy Scriptures (2Tim. 3:14–17). Hopefully, after reading this book, one may become convinced that God remains sovereign over all things He has created (Gen. Chaps 1, 2; Ps. 115:3; 135:6; Is. 43:13, 46:10), regardless, that sin, came to exist in post-Creation—when the fallen angels sinned against God in heaven (2Pe. 2:4; Jude 6) and later, when the first man and the first woman sinned against God in the garden of Eden (Gen. Chap. 3). Also may the divine teachings presented in this book encourage one (saved) to go forward in the Lord Jesus Christ and to walk diligently with the Holy Spirit in his or her daily life, as the Lord intended—for the elect of God (Jo. 14:15–17, 26; 16:7–15; Gal. 5:25; Re. 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22).

    Introduction

Men's knowledge has increased (Dan. 12:4) in this present age since the turn of the 20th Century—and onward. Therefore, it is not uncommon to learn from the news media (newspapers, radio, television, and internet, etc.) about major breakthroughs in the field of Medicine or Technology. Yet with all this advance knowledge, how many people (except for those who know Scripture) in this vast world know or understand God's eternal purpose for creating—the spiritual realm (heaven etc.) and the physical realm (planets, stars, etc.) of Creation or His eternal purpose for the creation of angels and man, or what is God's divine purpose for good and evil to enter post-Creation, or how is it possible for evil to exist when God created everything perfect, or that God works everything in conformity with the purpose of His good pleasure of His will, etc. But in order to obtain these truths and other teachings from the Bible, to be examine in this book, one will need the Holy Spirit and the Scriptures. Read the following truths from the Bible But the Helper will teach you everything and will cause you to remember all that I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit who the Father will send in my name (Jo. 14:26 New Century Version). And read: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can know them, because they are spiritual discerned (1Cor. 2:14 King James Version). Also read: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2Tim. 3:16, 17 New International Version).

Then God's eternal purpose for creating (Creation Act) will unfold (in this book). However, the Scripture reveals (see Preface) that even unbelievers (not save in Jesus) may seek wisdom from God: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him (Jas. 1:5 New King James Version). Therefore, seek wisdom from God—in order that one (not saved) may gain knowledge of God's saving grace through His Son Jesus Christ, so he (or she) might be save (Jo. 3:16, 17; Ro. 10:9, 10; 2Tim. 1:9, 10). So regardless of one's status, save in Jesus Christ or not, God helps those who earnestly seek His help, in order, for the one not save might receive salvation,¹ and for the save in Jesus to know His will in their lives (Eph. 1:9; Jas. 2:8) as the Lord's disciples and stewards on earth (Mt. 28:16–20; 1Pe. 4:10), as mentioned. (Please note: Because of the wide range of truths [Scripture] that are in the Bible, only examples [divine teachings] presented in this book are examined. Also, in this book, some of the Bible teachings may apply with other teachings [Scriptures] from the Bible, therefore it is necessary to repeat them [Scriptures]. However, occasionally, the divine teachings [Scripture] are also repeated in this book, for those who may not retain these truths [Scripture] as easily as others.) The following teachings (Scriptural truths) from the Bible, to be examine, is on the Creator of the heavens and the earth; and it is here, with the Creator, His eternal purpose begins to unfold.

    Chapter 1

    God the Creator

During infinity's past, God selected the appointed time to create,² in order, to carry out His eternal purpose for creating (to be reveal shortly). First, He created the spiritual realm, where God sits on His throne in heaven and His angelic hosts abide with Him, their Creator: Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord… (Job 1:6 KJV), and read: The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth all (Ps. 103:19 KJV). Then, God carried out His divine plan to create the physical realm, with its galaxies, planets etc.—and on one planet, called earth, God created living beings—man, ground animals, birds, and sea animal etc., and all living plants, trees, and so forth.³ So the heavens and the earth and everything in it God, the Creator, created, so He may carry out His eternal purpose for creating. The following passages from the Bible is on the Creation Act: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness he called night. And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. And God said, Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water. So God made the expanse and separate the water under the expanse from water above it. And it was so. God called the expanse sky. And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day. And God said, Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear. And it was so. God called the dry ground land, and the gathered waters he called seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds. And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day. And God said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth. And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day. And God said, Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky. So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day. And God said, Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kinds, And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the seas and livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground"

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that move on the ground. Then God said, I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food. And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done" (Gen. Chap. 1; 2:1-3 NIV).

God Created for His Own Good Pleasure of His Will

According to the Scriptures, God created all things in creation: the spiritual realm (heaven, and angels, etc.) and the physical realms (planets, stars, man, etc.) for Himself: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him (Col. 1:16 KJV)… But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hasth pleased… Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places (Ps. 115:3; 135:6 KJV)… Declaring the end from the beginning And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure;… Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it (Is. 46:10, 11 New American Standard Bible)… Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, …Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself… In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will (Eph. 1:5, 9, 11 KJV). Then the following: For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him (Phi. 2:13 New Living Translation)

Therefore, regardless, how one may perceive God in his (or her) own life (religious belief), it is evident in the Scriptures just presented that God created all things in accordance to His good pleasure of His will (Eph. 1:5). Once one understands God's truths, His divine teachings from the Bible on His divine pleasure of His will, as well as on His divine sovereignty and on His divine providence (coming shortly), he (or she) may become open-(minded) to receive God's divine truths, (with the Holy Spirit's help and spiritual discernment [Jo. 14:26; 1Cor. 2:14]), on His eternal purpose for creation (from the Bible), that is presented in this book without any reservations or any difficulty. So seek wisdom from God today (Jas. 1:5), so one might become enlighten on His eternal purpose for creating (Creation Act).

    Chapter 2

    God the Potter

Taking a closer look what the Scripture has to say about God's sovereignty may give one a better understanding about God, His sovereignty over creation, and over His created beings (angels, and man, etc.). And once examining the teachings on His infinite sovereignty (along with His infinite good pleasure of His will, and His divine providence, etc.), one may become receptive (with the Holy Spirit's help) on what the Scriptures teach (2Tim. 3:16) about God's eternal purpose for creating. Therefore, the teachings on the Sovereignty of God is first to be examine next.

    God's Divine Sovereignty

God's sovereignty is displayed throughout the Bible, for the Scriptures confirms His sovereignty, as said, over the things He created (creation): For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things and by him all things consist, (Col. 1:16, 17 KJV). Then read: In whom also we obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will (Eph. 1:11 KJV). Further, the apostle Paul was also led to write to the early church (believers) concerning the sovereignty of God for the Scripture say: …but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that shewed mercy. For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? (Ro. 9:10–21 KJV)

In the Book of Isaiah, the prophet had this to say concerning the sovereignty of God: You turn things around! Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay, That what is made should say to its maker, He did not make me? Or what is formed say to him who formed it, He has no understanding? (Is. 29:16) Then Isaiah also gives this warning to anyone who may question the Creator's sovereign rights: Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker—An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you doing?' Or the thing you are making say, ‘He has no hands'? (Is. 45:9 NASB) But Isaiah says to the Lord: But now, O Lord, thou are our father, we are the clay, and thou our potter, and we are the works of thy hand (Is. 64:8 KJV). Therefore, God the Potter has the sovereign right over the clay to create according to the purpose of His eternal will, as said (Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?" [Ro. 9:21 KJV]) So according to the Scriptures on God's sovereignty, regardless, what God creates or He loves or hates (Jo. 1:3; Ro. 9:10-13) He doesn't need anyone's (angels or men) approval! The following teachings from the Bible is on the Providence of God—how God's providence and God's sovereignty with the good pleasure of His will, together, carry out His eternal purpose for creating.

    God's Divine Providence

In the Bible—depending on the version—one may come across the words chose, predestined, called, elect, and foreknowledge or foreknew. These words just listed are from the New King James Version of the Bible, and these words are referring to the divine providence of God. So in order for one to attain a complete understanding (with the Holy Spirit's help)⁴ on God's eternal purpose for creating (Creation Act etc.), it is therefore necessary for one to examine God's divine providence that concerns Creation from a pre-Creation viewpoint, so these words are examined next.

    Chose and Predestined

In Ephesians 1:4, 5 NKJV, in the Bible, the words chose and predestined are found. Please read:

just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.

Therefore, the words chose and predestined when used in these passages are referring to, before the creation of the world, God chose (children of adoption) those at the appointed time that are going to be saved through His Son Jesus Christ. Therefore, God had a redemption plan before the world was created, or was the redemption plan before creation? The answer is coming up next.

    Called

The word called is found in 2 Timothy 1:9 NKJV. For it says: who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began. So this passage, 2 Timothy 1:9 NKJV is referring to pre-Creation, because the beginning of time is attributed to creation when time came into existence—for examples, the time of creation (Gen. Chaps. 1, 2) or the time of angels (Heb. 2:7) or the time of man (Gen. 1:26–30; 2:7–24). However, for more clarity, one can say, or the time of Noah and the Great Flood (Gen. Chaps. 6–9) or the time of Moses and the Ten Commandments (Ex. 2:1–10; 20:1–17), etc. Thus, the Scripture reveals that God's grace and salvation through His only Son is predestined under the counsel of His will and His good pleasure,⁵ before creation (2Tim. 1:9 NKJV). The next words to be examine are Elect and Foreknowledge or Foreknew.

    Elect and Foreknowledge and Foreknew

The words elect and foreknowledge are found in 1 Peter 1:2 (NKJV): elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:… (1Pe. 1:2 NKJV). And the word foreknew (also predestined and called) in Romans 8:29, 30. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified (Ro. 8:29, 30 NKJV). So then the words elect and foreknowledge in 1 Peter 1:2 NKJV and the word foreknew in Romans 8:29 NKJV are (all) referring to pre-creation because the Scriptures already confirms salvation is predestined and under the counsel of God's will and His good pleasure (Eph. 1:4, 5) before creation, in 2 Timothy 1:9 NKJV, by His sovereign will and divine providence.

Therefore, it is important to have an open mind that the garden of Eden, with the man and the woman⁶ and the serpent⁷ and the tree of knowledge of good and evil and the tree of life,⁸ are part of a greater plan of the Creator that suit His eternal purpose for creating—for His good pleasure of His will.⁹ Also, it is vital to keep in mind that the mindset of this book is written based on the premise of God's divine sovereignty, providence, and according to the good pleasure of His will to carry out His eternal purpose for creating (Creation Act and what follows after, in post-Creation) that's confirmed by the written word of God, the Holy Scriptures (2Tim. 3:16, 17), and the Holy Bible reveals how it is done. God's eternal purpose for creation is coming soon, but first, the following teachings on the origin of evil is next since good and evil plays an important roles in God's divine plan for creating—His eternal purpose.

    Chapter 3

    Origin of Evil

According to the Bible on Creation, the spiritual realm (heaven, angels,¹⁰ etc.) and the physical realm (stars, planets, man, etc.¹¹) and everything in it, was predestinated¹² and created by God, the Creator—its origin: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth (Gen. 1:1 KJV). Although this is true about creation that it has a beginning, but this doesn't apply to the knowledge of good and evil because good and evil are two principles or laws that has always existed with God. How is this possible? one may ask. Because God is revealed in the Bible as being Omniscient (Infinite in His knowledge),¹³ and Omnipresent (Infinite in His Being),¹⁴ and is Omnipotent (Infinite in His Power)¹⁵ and that also applies to His other infinite attributes.¹⁶ In other words, these two principles or laws of good and evil, which are contrary to one another, are inseparable from God because of His Infinite Knowledge¹⁷ and His Infinite Being.¹⁸ Therefore, the principles (or laws) of good and evil always (inherently) exists with God, in infinity—for He is unending and His ways unchangeable¹⁹—and when these two principles (or laws) of good and evil apply to God, the Bible reveals the following truths about God:

The principle (or law) of good is everything God is:

For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

PRAISE ye the Lord, O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Ps. 100:5; 106:1 KJV)

And the principle (or law) of evil is everything God is not because God is holy and righteous in all His ways:

"Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. (Lev. 19:2 NASB)

But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.

The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. (Ps. 22:3; 99:5; 145:17 KJV)

Evil, and the Birth of Sin

During infinity's past, before Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden²⁰ (when Satan,²¹ through the serpent in the garden, deceived the first woman²²), the Bible reveals after a period of probation in heaven, a third of the angelic host²³ decided (knowledge of evil) to sin against their Creator. And the first to fall, is the angel Lucifer (Satan),²⁴ then other angels followed him (2Pe. 2: 14; Jude 6; Re. 12:7–12). Read the following teachings (Scripture) on the fallen angel Lucifer:

    "How you are fallen from

    heaven,

O Lucifer, son of the morning!

How you are cut down to the

    ground,

    You who weakened the

    nations!

For you have said in your

    heart:

    ‘I will ascend into heaven;

I will exalt my throne above the

    stars of God;

I will also sit on the mount of

    the congregation

On the farthest side of the

    north;

I will ascend above the heights

    of the clouds,

I will be like the Most High.'"

    (Is. 14:12–14 NKJV)

Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou was created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. (Ezk. 28:13–17 KJV)

Then read other passages from the Bible about the angels etc. that sinned against God: For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment(2Pe. 2:4 KJV). And read: And the angels which kept not their estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day (Jude 6 KJV). Thus, the birth of sin (that is evil) began to exist in the spiritual realm, in post-Creation, through the angels that sinned. Then later, in the physical realm, when Adam (and Eve) also sinned against God, by eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which God forbid them to eat, for the serpent said to the woman:

Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'? And the woman said to the serpent, From the fruit of the tree of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.' And the serpent said to the woman, You surely shall not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. (Gen. 3:1–7 NASB)

And this is how sin and death and the knowledge (principle or law) of good and evil entered the world through Adam's sin—when Adam (and Eve) defied God's command, and ate the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil—even after God warned Adam (and Eve) he would die, if he ate the forbidden fruit: And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day you eat of it you shall surely die (Gen. 2:16, 17 NKJV)… When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. Adam's sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned (Ro. 5:12 NLT; 1Cor. 15:21). Sin already existed in the heavenly realm, by the angels who first sinned (2Pe. 2:4; Jude 6) as said. And it was only a matter of time (by God's divine providence²⁵), as revealed in the Bible, when sin (that is evil) entered the world in the physical realm of creation through Adam's sin (Ro. 5:12; 1Cor. 15:21) etc.

The Principles (or Laws) of Good and Evil Among Men

The apostle Paul understood that the principle or law of good and evil was contrary to one another (Ro. 7:14–25), and he also knew, with the help of the Holy Spirit²⁶, that the principle (or law) of evil is contrary to God and His holy order in Creation (as seen in the Bible). And once sin (evil) came into the world through Adam,²⁷ Paul knew, the struggles of an unregenerate sinner (no rebirth²⁸) would have with the sinful nature. Paul explained to the early believers his own experience with the sinful nature before he was saved in Christ. For Paul says: I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members (Ro. 7:21-23 NKJV). Paul thanked God for setting him free from the sinful nature through the Lord Jesus Christ (and the regeneration by the Holy Spirit, rebirth²⁹), for he also said: O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord… (Ro. 7:24, 25 KJV).

The Principle (or Law) of Evil

The Bible reveals that the principle (or law) of evil is everything sin is, for sin is the living embodiment of evil through the fallen angels and through the sinful nature of man. Also, it can be said that the principle (or law) of evil is all what the sinful nature of man is (inherently evil) and why, the Scriptures reveal, concerning man's fallen state that the old self, the sinful nature and its power had to be crucified on the cross along with the repented sinner's sins—those saved in Jesus Christ—the Lamb of God who takes away sin (Jo. 1:29)—in order to free men from the slavery of sin that leads to eternal death (Jo. 3:16; Re. 20:15).

For if we have been planted in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. (Ro. 6:5–7 KJV)

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. (Gal. 5:24 KJV)

The Rebirth of a Repented Sinner

When a repented sinner is born in the Spirit (Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God [Jo. 3:5 KJV]), he becomes a new creation, a new man in the Spirit (Jo. 3:3, 5; Ro. 6:4; 2Cor. 5:17; Eph. 4:24). Thus, his old self, the sinful nature and its power, is dead (Ro. 6:6, 11; Gal. 5:24), and now the new man lives in the Spirit, must walk with the Spirit in his daily life:

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Gal. 5:25 KJV)

Also, his body belongs to God (1Cor. 6:20; 7:23), for His glory as an instrument of righteousness for God (Ro. 6:13, 14). (Please note: The Scripture reveals, the reason a believer fall prey to temptation because he [or she] lacks the teachings on righteousness and unrighteousness thus is not capable to distinguish between good and evil [Heb. 5:11-14].).

    Salvation in Jesus Christ Only

Therefore, as one may perceive, this is how it is possible for evil to exist in post-Creation because of sin (that is evil). And concerning man—for the law requires the shedding of blood for the forgiveness of sin (Lev. 17:11; Heb. 9:22)—is why God sent His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to remove sin once and for all times³⁰ to those who believe in His Son for salvation. Read the following truths from the Bible: For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish; but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it (Jo. 3:16, 17 NLT)… Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12 KJV). Also, that Jesus might destroy the works of the devil, in order, to free those save through Him from the sinful nature and its power and to resist the temptations from the evil one (Ro. 6:6; Gal. 5:24; Jas. 4:7; 1Jo. 3:8–10). In the following chapters, God's eternal purpose for creation will unfold—His divine plan for angels, man etc., and so much more teachings from the Bible (presented in this book). As a reminder, keep in mind the teachings on God's divine: Pleasure, Will, Sovereignty, and Providence,³¹ and also, continue to seek the Holy Spirit's help, as said, for the Spirit is the believer's (saved) Teacher³²; and that God's divine truths are in the Scriptures, so please use spiritual discernment (1Cor. 2:14; 2Tim. 3:16, 17).

    Chapter 4

    God the Architect

A good architect before carrying out his master plan considers the pros and cons of his building project. Although his project (house) is perfect upon completion, rough occupants may damage the property, or the elements of nature such as fierce floods, earthquakes etc. may affect the architect's prize work—something any architect has no control of. But this doesn't apply to God, the Great Architect of Creation! Who predestinated and also worked all things, good and evil, after the counsel of His own will before He proceeded with creation, …being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will (Eph. 1:11 KJV; Gen. Chap. 1). And read about Job, God's servant, who said about God's works:

"I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted. (Job 42:2 NIV; Gen. 18:14; Ezk. 12:25; Mt. 19:26, etc.)

So what exactly does this mean? one may ask. What this means is that an Eternal God,³³ as said, before He created anything—the Creation Act with the spiritual realm (heaven, angels,³⁴ etc.) and the physical realm (planets, stars, man³⁵ etc.) and everything else that happened after Creation (concerning good and evil)—did not interfere with God's divine plan for post-Creation because all things (creation) was predestine to conform to the good pleasure of His will before going forward to create anything. For instance(s), from the Bible, it reveals the angels were created unison in heaven,³⁶ but then, a third of the angels in heaven sinned against God;³⁷ and then the man and woman were living in bliss in the garden of Eden, but then they both sinned concerning the forbidden fruit.³⁸ Then there was Noah and the Flood,³⁹ and the Table of Nations,⁴⁰ the Tower of Babel,⁴¹ Moses and the Law,⁴² Jesus Christ the Redeemer,⁴³ the Advent of the Holy Spirit and the beginning of the Church Age,⁴⁴ the Great Tribulation,⁴⁵ and etc. In other words, all things, whether good or evil that takes place in post-Creation—in infinity past, present, and future—conforms to God's good pleasure of His will (Eph. 1:11 KJV). Therefore, nothing, not even sin with the fallen angels in heaven (2Pe. 2:4; Jude 6, etc.), and sin that was committed by the first man and the first woman in the garden of Eden, concerning the forbidden fruit (Gen. Chap. 3; Ro. 5:13) did not alter or thwart God's divine plan and purpose for creating (Job 42:2). How magnificent God is! For all things are possible with God⁴⁶ because He created man (and angels⁴⁷) with the freedom of choice, yet man⁴⁸ and his actions, whether good or evil, are still under the sovereignty of God. For example, read:

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, now that Ehud was dead. So the Lord sold them into the hands of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor… (Jud. 4:1, 2 NIV)

Now, the question(s) is this, Did King Jabin know that before he and his armies overtook the Israelites, they were doing God's will? (Jud. 4:1–3), or did Jabin know, he and his army were the means that God would use to punish His people for falling away from Him? (Jud. 4:1) or that the Israelites' oppression under him would cause the Israelites to cry out to the Lord for deliverance? (Jud. 4:1–3) Of course, King Jabin and his armies had no prior knowledge that God used Israel's enemies to punish them, for their disobedience toward Him etc. and that their oppression would result for good because the Israelites would repent and return to their merciful and sovereign God.⁴⁹ Also, read what God said to Moses concerning His sovereignty over the earth and about His chosen nation, the Hebrews:⁵⁰ "Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine. And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the Lord commanded him. And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord (Ex. 19:5–8 KJV).

But God's sovereignty is also over the mammals of the sea etc.: Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights… And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land (Jon. 1:17; 2:10 NIV). And God's sovereighty over the elements of nature: Seven days from now; I will send rain on earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made. And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him (Gen. 7:4 NIV; 6:11-22). And what the Scripture reveals about the Providence of God etc., concerning the prophet Jeremiah: Then the word of the Lord came unto me saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and ordained thee a prophet unto nations" (Jer. 1:4, 5 KJV).

And read words of encouragement from the Lord God to the Jews belonging to the southern kingdom, Judah, that were in Babylonian captivity for seventy years because of sin against their God⁵¹: For thus said the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you (Jer. 29:10-12 KJV; 2Kins. Chap. 25; Ezra Chap. 1). However, if one is still uncertain of this divine truth in the Bible that God predestined everything that takes place in post-Creation, good and evil, to suit the good pleasure of His will in order to carry out His eternal purpose for creating, for Himself (Col. 1:16), then consider this next confirmation from the Scriptures on God's sovereignty, providence, will, and etc. Read the Bible account of Joseph—one of the sons of the patriarch Jacob with his wife, Rachel.⁵² He was sold to slave traders heading to Egypt by his brothers years later heading to Egypt because they hated him (Gen. 37:1–11), except for Reuben and Benjamin who weren't involved (Gen. 37:12–36)—while in Egypt, Joseph became second to Pharoah in charge of Egypt, on the distribution of grain, after he interpreted Pharoah's dream that concern a great famine that would strike the world doing that time, and because of a great famine, his brothers went to Egypt and weren't aware on their first and second trip to Egypt to buy food from him (Joseph) whom Pharaoh had put in charge of the food distribution of all Egypt because of the famine,⁵³ what the Scripture says about Joseph when he revealed his true identity to his brothers:

And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence. And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not. And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast. (Gen. 45:3–10 KJV)

Therefore, one can see, as revealed in the Bible, that the Almighty Sovereign God in heaven is sitting on His throne and is actively involve with His angels,⁵⁴ and He is also actively involve with man on earth: The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eye-lids try, the children of men (Ps. 11:4 KJV; Genesis to Revelation). Then read: …but Rebekah's children had one and the same father, our father Isaac. Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God's purpose in election might stand: not by works but him who calls—she was told, The older will serve the younger" (Ro. 10-12 NIV). Next, God's eternal purpose for creating.

    Divine Purpose for Creation

According to the Scripture, God's eternal purpose for creating is, to make Himself known, His divinity—Godhead⁵⁵—and His specific attributes (holiness,⁵⁶ love,⁵⁷ mercy,⁵⁸ grace,⁵⁹ justice,⁶⁰ wrath⁶¹ etc.), and at the appointed time Jesus Christ (2Tim. 1:9, 10 NIV). For Jesus says: And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you told me to do. And now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began (Jo. 17:3-5 NLT). However, in order for one to comprehend God's specific attributes, it requires the knowledge of good and evil to enter the world, and this is what happened when the first man (and the first woman) sinned against God, concerning the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil that he (and she) was commanded not to eat (Gen. Chap. 3; Ro. 5:12; 1Cor. 15:21)—for the following Scriptures confirm this when they both sinned and their eyes were opened (Gen. Chap. 3) to the knowledge of good and evil: And the Lord God said, Behold, the man, is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever. Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken (Gen. 3:22, 23 KJV).

Then after sin entered the world⁶² and after the Great Flood in Noah's days,⁶³ God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses (Ex. 20:10–17) so the laws or commandments of God shall be honored and to warn anyone from doing evil against God and one's fellowman but only do good not evil. Read the following Ten Commandments from God:

I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of thy Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservants, nor thy maidservants, nor thy cattle, nor the stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shall not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. (Ex. 20:2–17 KJV)

Also read, when King Solomon, who succeeded his father, King David,⁶⁴ asked of God to give him wisdom to judge justly: Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? (1Kins. 3:9 KJV) Then read from the book of Hebrews: For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil (Heb. 5:12-14 KJV).

Therefore, in order, for one to distinguish between good and evil, it's imperative that the knowledge of good and evil enter post-Creation, and it did through sin (Gen. Chap. 3; Ro. 5:12; 1Cor. 15:21; 2Pe. 2:4; Jude 6). As for the Godhead,⁶⁵ read what the Scripture says about Jesus, the Great Commission, and baptizing in the name of each Member (Trinity) of the Godhead: Jesus came and told his disciples, I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and in the Son and in the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of age" (Mt. 28:18-20 NLT).

Actually, it was Jesus who mentioned each Member of the Godhead when He commanded the disciples to baptize new disciples in the name of the Father and in the Son and in the Holy Spirit.⁶⁶ Also, the Son of God, Jesus Christ, was predestined by God to make known to the world, at the appointed time, about salvation through His Son only, so those who believe in His only Son may have eternal life.⁶⁷ But not only that, so the redeemed in Christ⁶⁸ may have fellowship with the Godhead—the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.⁶⁹ Also, the Father (of the Godhead) seeks true worshipers, for Jesus said one day to the Samaritan woman by the well:

Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall you worship the Father. You worship that which you do not know; we worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews. But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. (Jo. 4:21–24 NASB)

Thus, as Jesus Christ said, And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ who you have sent (Jo. 17:3 NKJV). Then read (examples) what the Bible reveals about God's specific attributes on His love, mercy, and grace etc., as previously noted: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved (Jo. 3:16, 17 KJV)… who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel (2Tim. 1:9, 10 NKJV). And about God's sovereignty, providence, will and power.

For the Scriptures say that God told Pharaoh, I have appointed you for the very purpose of displaying my power in you, and so that my fame might spread throughout the earth. (Ro. 9:17 NLT)

It is obvious thus far, through the Scriptures, God had more in mind that goes beyond the Garden of Eden (Gen. 2:8, 15), as one continues to examine God's divine teachings from the Bible.

The Apostles Understood God's Eternal Purpose for Creation

With the Holy Spirit's guidance and help,⁷⁰ Paul wrote about God's wrath, His power, His long suffering, His mercy, and glory, but also revealing His divine sovereignty, providence, and the pleasure of His will.⁷¹ please read: What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory (Ro. 9:22, 23 KJV; Ps. 58:3; Eph. 1:5, 11). (Please note: The vessels of wrath in Romans 9:22 [KJV] are those whose names that are not written in the book of life in Revelations 20:12, 15; and the vessels of mercy in Romans 9:23 [KJV] are the Elect of God [Eph. 1: 11; 2Tim. 1:9], save through the grace of God and His Son Jesus Christ [Jo. 3:16, 17; Ro. 10:9,10; 2Tim. 1:9, 10] and whose names are written in the book of life [Phil. 4:3; Re. 20:12, 15]—the Old and New Testaments saints⁷²). Also read what Job said about the wicked: That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath, (Job 21:30 KJV) Then read Proverbs 16:4 what it also says about the wicked: The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. Also about God's sovereighty over the wicked angels, for He told Satan concerning His servant Job: And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord (Job 1:12 KJV). And then, His sovereighty over men:

Then he said to me, The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are people, multitudes, nations, and tongues. And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth. (Re. 17:15–18 NKJV)
