    Amy had expected it to just be her and her teammates at the hotel, and that they would have a quiet relaxed evening before their swim meet the next morning, but virtually all the rooms at the hotel had been booked by different swim teams that were competing this weekend. Now, the lobby was packed, and had been turned into a makeshift party room with people passing around drinks and snacks.

    She felt incredibly out of place, but she did her best to have fun—she had never been one for parties, and had always focused on studying and training. Right now she just wanted to go back to her room, but she also didn’t want people to think she was awkward and shy by being the only one to leave.

    Her stomach always felt like a twisted knot of iron the night before a race—tonight was no exception, and being surrounded by loud laughing people was making it worse. She didn’t understand how everyone else could want to be partying when they should be focusing on being well rested.
