    CHAPTER 1

    Hidden deep in King Oak Forest lived the oldest oak in the land. Kings, queens and noblemen alike had all paid homage to the old magical tree, simply because it was believed at the time that the giant oak had special mystical powers.

    Little did they know that in the bottom of its wide, gnarled trunk lived Philomena the good woodland fairy.

    Her sister, Helena, was the naughty one of the pair. She lived in another tree which was situated quite close to the wise old oak.

    The door to Philomena’s home was very difficult to see, almost invisible, but if you looked hard enough, you would see that it was there. Phil, as she was also known in the forest, had lived inside the tree for many life-times, and because of this, she had learned to communicate with the old oak, not always with the spoken word, but mentally as well. Somehow they always knew what the other was thinking.
