Introduction
START THRIVING, NOT SURVIVING
01
I wonder what’s more challenging—the first hundred days of being President or surviving the first hundred days of fatherhood.
If you have a little trouble deciding what to do, there is a phone you can pick up or one of a hundred people ready to help with every detail.
I know that in my early days of fatherhood, I was too busy even to know where my phone was, let alone call for help, and if I did reach someone, they each had completely different instructions, and they certainly didn’t have a degree in what they were talking about.
When my wife and I were pregnant, we were handed what seemed like textbooks for what was on the way. I didn’t plan on becoming a doctor; just looking for a tip or two for how to change a diaper, what this thing was going to eat, and what I’m supposed to have around the house other than nice cocktail glasses and a few guitars. I didn’t want to be overwhelmed by information or have someone make me feel even more insecure by telling me how little I knew…I read three pages.
That’s why I’m writing this for you. So you can get a head start on sorting out your new life in less than an hour (depending on how fast you read). I cover what matters most for new and expecting dads: yourself, your partner/relationship, your family, and your child. I’ve owned a couple of restaurants, like food and drink, play music, and I love my wife. I’m not an obstetrician; I’m not an author…as I write this ;) nor am I the perfect dad (psst… they don’t exist)… I’m a guy trying to get through each day with a new life, figuratively and literally.
Even if you put this down after four paragraphs, you should know that every child is unique, and every dad is unique. There is a chance that nothing in this book will work for you and that it ends up a doorstop, but that’s ok. Because if that is the case, you may have ruled out one more thing to stop your baby from screaming bloody murder at 2
