his book was inspired during a time of fasting, praying, and pressing into the presence of The Almighty God, thus, acknowledging Him as the author and finisher of this mini-book. All credit, glory, and honor belong to Him for giving me the inspiration to put pen to paper. For without Him and the Holy Spirit, this book would not exist.

I acknowledge my parents, the late Lorenzo and Celestine Harris. With a praying mother, going to church was not an option; it was a mandate. Therefore, serving in the Kingdom of God became second nature from childhood to adulthood. My mother encouraged us to serve in many capacities in the church, from junior ushers, singing in the church choir, attending Sunday school, morning worship service, and the Baptist Training Union (BTU) on Sunday evenings. The residue of the impartation of what I learned in the church instilled great ethics, morals, and values which continue to resonate today. My mother, rest her soul, and her faith in God were the glue that held the family together and placed us on the path to serving God.

I acknowledge the numerous churches in the state of Pennsylvania and now Virginia and the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International (FGBCFI) family (in Pennsylvania and globally) who helped to cultivate who I am today. Being part of, and serving in, a fellowship that changed a generation of believers to walk in the fullness of God is a journey that is forever woven into the fabric of my life.

Finally, I acknowledge my family. My husband, three daughters and five grandchildren, my family has been my training ground for life and my number one support in all that I do. Through my family, I have experienced laughter, tears, joy, and pain, but most importantly, how to love and be loved. Thank you for your love and prayers, for always being there, for your covering and protection, and most of all, for holding me accountable.

    Background

    B

orn a coal miner’s daughter in rural Pennsylvania and into a family of nine siblings, who would have thought that anything good could come out of such a small place? Oh, but wait, isn’t that what they said about Jesus? Could anything good come out of Nazareth? The one thing I have learned in life is not to be ashamed of where you come from, as God can use you from anywhere.

My name is Carla J. Smith. I am a wife, mother, grandmother, worker, leader, teacher, military veteran, former First Lady, and ordained clergy, to name a few. Being framed by culture, community, family, and friends, I was living life to the best of my ability. However, over time, I learned that my best was like filthy rags compared to what God had in store for me. God’s love, grace and mercy have changed the trajectory of my life and afforded me the opportunity to wear many hats and minister to hundreds of women across the state of Pennsylvania and stand before hundreds on international platforms.

While serving in the ministry, I was afforded the opportunity to learn from many dynamic preachers, teachers, and speakers. In doing so, I learned to multi-task, take what I hear with a grain of salt, and most importantly, with the help of God, I learned and am still learning the truth about God’s Word. I learned that God’s Word is amazing. It is quick, powerful, and sharper than a two-edged sword. His words get results. His words are faith-filled. His words framed the world in which we live.

God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. His words are undeniable. His words go out and do not return void (empty). His words are spirit-filled. His words are comforting. His words bring peace. His words bring healing to the soul and body. His word became flesh in the person of His Son, Jesus the Christ. His words give life, and His words are life-changing when we apply them.

Some say the Bible, God’s Word, is comprised of 66 books of love letters written to the church. Some say it’s the dos and don’ts of life, giving us rules to follow. Some call it the instruction manual for life. Whatever you believe, it is the most influential book you will ever read, as it has the power within its pages to change your life.
