How will you get everyone to respect and trust your decisions?
Is it possible to lead a team with much older and more experienced peers than you are?
Can you be assertive and draw the line between being friends with your team members and leading them as you should?
Between these concerns and battling imposter syndrome as a young career manager, millennials are often left feeling like they have been thrown into the fire pit.
With millennials outnumbering other generations at work and many older workers turning to retirement, it's no wonder why there are so many young managers in the workplace today.

- You may also feel like you lack enough experience to manage the organization and the employees while meeting expectations.
- However, it would help if you weren't afraid to embrace leadership roles.

All you need is to figure out how to lead your team -- and you will be beating the quarterly targets before you know it.
In the New Manager's Guide, you'll discover:

INTRODUCTION
"We don’t need a title to lead. We need to care. People would rather follow a leader with a heart than a leader with a title."
~ Craig Groeschel
As Groeschel suggests in his quote, titles don’t make leaders. We would rather follow those that truly care about people.
To a certain extent, a title does come with some authority. That doesn’t mean others will instantly follow you; it certainly doesn’t make you a good leader. You have to take personal responsibility for this, and it means dedicating time to learning the craft of leadership. It’s a journey that’s worth committing to.
Titles give clues about our status in the world, but they don’t truly provide key information about our person or expertise. An unmarried woman is often addressed as
‘Miss,’ but a married woman as ‘Mrs.’ What do those titles really tell us about a woman?
In short, they tell us nothing…
There’s a possibility that someone with the title Mrs. is no longer married but chose to keep the title and surname.
Titles certainly don’t tell us if you’re a good mother, a hard worker, or a great leader. The title of Mrs. alone simply indicates a person is—or was once—married. Even the title of Doctor simply indicates medical or educational attainment, but it alone tells us nothing about a person’s nature or expertise.
That’s why Groeschel’s quote is so on point—anyone can be labeled a leader, but a title alone doesn’t indicate anything. Only YOU get to decide what type of leader you will be!
To be a great leader, you have to want it. You have to care. People will respect and follow you if you have heart and passion—and if you truly care. While many leaders want to become great, it’s easy to lose sight of how we can develop into the great leader we want to become. This is often because being a leader brings responsibilities and stresses you’ve never faced before, especially if you’re an early-career leader.
So, ask yourself now, do you have the heart to become a great leader? Do you care enough?
There are so many benefits of being a great leader. Some of the world’s most prestigious and highest-performing teams report that they perform well because of inspirational and caring leaders. We’ll be exploring this in more detail throughout this book. Being a young leader can bring so much more to the table, but young leaders also face many unique challenges. They are often challenges new managers are unprepared for, through no fault of their own.
Many people want nothing more than to become great leaders… they just don’t know which path they need to take. While they have many technical skills, some common problems young leaders encounter include not having much work experience and/or people skills. This can make many ‘real’ situations in the workplace overwhelming, and this is exactly the reason why being a leader that cares is important.
While creating this book, I spoke to some inspirational young leaders about their challenges when they first began their leadership journey. These key challenges arose from:
Managing change in the workplace Lacking people skills and work experience
Insufficient communication skills when it comes to communicating projects, delivering messages, and providing feedback to staff members
An inability to effectively identify developmental areas for themselves and their team
Resolving conflict and tension management Identifying growth and promotional opportunities for themselves and others within their team
Developing presentation skills and improving as a result of their experience
Getting to know their team and being able to read their body language and facial cues to avoid misunderstandings
Developing their emotional intelligence to deal with difficult situations in a professional manner
Improving time management and organization skills
Being able to problem-prioritize effectively by using their evaluation skills based on business needs and goals
Understanding the strengths and development areas within the team to assign work accordingly
Building trust and being approachable to team members
Focusing on the team and being aware of what is happening in the background
Developing self-awareness of their own leadership
If you want to become a great leader, work must be done. While the above list of key issues may seem overwhelming, these are all common challenges that many early leaders face. On a positive note, these are all areas that you can work on and fix easily by applying the strategies in this book. You already have the technical skills, but this book will help you shine as a person and settle into the unique and inspirational leadership role you aspire to occupy or have been promoted to. That’s why this
book focuses on helping you become the leader YOU want to be… not the leader you think other people want you to be. Make no mistake; there’s a lot to learn if you want to become an inspirational leader. But it’s worth gaining such a rewarding role.
If you’re ready to develop killer leadership skills, master your coaching habits, and build trust while developing high-performance teams, read on. I got you! For too long, I have watched as early leaders faced their challenges alone. I can help you become committed to your leadership role, embrace the opportunities in front of you, and rise to meet all changes that cross your path. You are not alone, and I’m here to help you step into your greatness!
This book is split into four key sections to help you grow into your leadership role and become great at it. You’ll first focus on developing and leading yourself. Then in section II, you’ll consider how you can use your skills, instincts, and abilities to inspire and lead others. In section III, you’ll dive deep into team leading and how you can use your skills to motivate your team, share your vision, and drive your team toward success. Finally, section IV provides you with extra tools so that you can continue to grow and develop. Remember, a great leader recognizes there’s always something to learn and develop!
By the end of this book, you’ll have all the tools you need to excel!
Above all else, you will learn to be your best!
You’re probably wondering who I am and what qualifies me to write this book. Well, let me introduce myself. My name is Karina. I have worked with young leaders like yourself for the last twenty years. I’ve devoted my life to helping others succeed. It’s not enough for me to work with organizations. I want to work with individual leaders, particularly early-career leaders who have all the technical skills they need but do not yet have the people experience
that is so crucial to their success. I have seen many bright minds struggle in their roles because of this. Trying to navigate the unknowns of leadership—such as finding better ways of communicating with diverse teams, influencing up and across, and building trust. This is so much harder without knowing exactly how and where to start! I’ve spent my coaching and training career helping leaders find true success and fulfillment.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have lived in seven different countries where I owned and operated training, coaching, and mentorship businesses. I’m a keynote speaker and corporate trainer, and I deliver leadership training sessions in four languages. I’ve consulted in the tech, pharmaceutical, retail, and financial industries (just to name a few). Over the last 15 years, I have facilitated hundreds of in-person and virtual workshops worldwide.
I’m renowned for my energy and passion, and I bring about change by inspiring and motivating small and large teams. I have an uncanny way of opening minds to new possibilities, encouraging innovative ways of thinking, and helping individuals and companies manage their best
resource—the human resource. My work is not yet done as I continue to coach and mentor hundreds
