Unmasking Evil

About this ebook
Steven J. Cole refers to the Apostle Paul's spiritual experience as described in Romans 7:14-20 (KJV) as the merry-go-round of sin. It is an experience that I believe every child of God is subject to as a result of the evil in our world. The crust of it is this: "For the good that I would do I do not: but the evil I would not do, that I do" (Romans 7:19). Without question, we want to get off this merry-go-round of sin, but that is not an easy task, for we are held there by an unseen master-a masked evil whose presence has gripped the whole of our society and the world and placed in it a mind-set that is deprived of understanding, judgment, and perception. Paul, through spiritual discernment, exposed this evil in Ephesians 6:12. He said, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness in this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." He unmasked the evil in our world, revealing that we are all affected by its presence. Christ has called each of us to recognize this masked evil and expose it to the world that we have been charged to impact positively for him.

About the Author
This book is dedicated to my son David who inspired me, prayed for me continually, encouraged, and supported me with words of wisdom, daily phone calls, and who never let me give up.
Thank you, David. God bless you, Daddy.
This mystery of lawlessness is already at work and will continue to spread until the one behind it is exposed (unmasked) and taken out of the way.
—2 Thessalonians 2:7, Clear Word
Preface
At the core of much of what we believe to be good about the society in which we live and the world is evil. The Oxford Living Dictionary defines evil as profoundly immoral and wicked.
Its synonyms are wicked, bad, wrong, sinful, foul, dishonorable, corrupt, iniquitous, depraved, reprobate, villainous, nefarious, vicious, malicious, sinister, demonic, devilish, diabolical, fiendish, dark,
and the list goes on.
For most of the world, evil is hidden under the guise of what is considered to be normal acceptable ways of life (or lifestyles) for civilized people. What seems to make a certain behavior or a lifestyle acceptable throughout society and the world is that if a large amount of people is engaging in it and is convinced that it is (or should be considered) normal and tolerable behavior (whatever that behavior or way of life happens to be), that makes it okay, normal, admissible, and good.
In some societies, because the populous has deemed those certain behaviors or lifestyles (even those that, at one time, may have been considered uncivilized or unacceptable) acceptable, the process to have those behaviors or lifestyles legislated then began, ultimately leading to them becoming admissible (protected by law). The truth is that throughout our world evil is masked undercover of what appears to be normal, allowable, and supposedly good behavior or lifestyle.
Chapter 1
Unmasking Evil
The purpose of this book is to unmask this hidden evil as well as the ways and strategies used by the author of evil (Satan) to ensure that it permeates (as it continues to do) every area of life on our world. To be sure, unmasking evil is a rather difficult thing to do because many (perhaps most) in our society and our world are not aware that in most cases, evil is, in fact, hidden or masked. Also, if one considers that evil is only something that, at times, is exposed via violent crimes or malicious behavior or when portrayed for entertainment purposes such as Halloween on television, in the movies, etc., then it is just a matter of
