Chapter 1
Once there was a couple by the name of Mia and Will. They met in the summer after graduating from law school. Of course shortly afterward, Will went on to team up with a local law firm in their town. Now, after Mia came out of law school, she went home to help her daddy on the ranch. Mia and Will were both raised and born in the south. Once or twice a week, Will would go out to the ranch to lend Mia and her daddy a hand with the horses, notwithstanding the fact that once he was done there, he had to go home and view his court cases for the week and prepare opening statements for the days ahead. This was an all-night affair of him preparing for court. It didn’t matter to him, because he was in love.
Mia begged to let her help him with his case loads. But Will insisted that she rest up for tomorrow’s chores at the ranch so she could be a real help to her daddy. Will thought about something his great-granddaddy once told him. He said, Son, when a man loves a woman, he will look for opportunities to help her, no matter the task. A man is not going to say, ‘If you need me let me know.’
Will never took the things his great granddaddy said lightly.
Chapter 2
The very next morning Mia got up at four thirty to help her daddy, like all the other mornings. Although she had a real good night’s sleep, she felt so very tired. But she thought nothing of it. But as the day went on, her legs began to swell. She thought to herself, I’m just worn out from yesterday, that’s all . After which, Mia went down to the pond, just a quarter of a mile down the path from the old weeping willow tree beside the stables.
She has always loved that spot ever since she was a little girl. She stayed sitting by the pond watching the fishes jumping up and down. She thought about going into town and paying Will a surprise visit. We could have lunch, she thought to herself. So she started back up the winding path headed for the house. By the time she made it to the weeping willow tree, her legs were good ’n tired.
She said to herself, I’ll go to town tomorrow.
So she continued on her way back up to the house. There, her daddy was waiting for her, with a nice cold glass of ice tea.
Mia said to him, Daddy, my feet and legs are killing me; I got to lie down!
She went down the hall to the bathroom and took a quick hot shower, brushed her teeth, and went straight to bed.
Her daddy didn’t say anything to her, but he thought it was very strange for her to retire so early.
Later that evening, Will called because he hadn’t heard from Mia at all that day. Her daddy answered the phone since Mia had lain down. Mia’s daddy was happy to hear Will’s raspy voice over the phone.
Will asked him, How was your day?
Her daddy replied, Fair-de-mitly.
Will smiled and asked to speak with Mia.
Her daddy said to him, You know, Will, she said that she was tired and needed to lie down.
Will quickly became concerned and asked, Is everything alright?
Her
