About this ebook

This book is about a woman who has a learning disability. She was a foster child to her own grandmother, and this woman was on pills and didn't know she was getting addicted to the pills. In the story, she went through so many emotions and was misunderstood by so many people.

In church you would call it a testimony, but in life you would say the struggle is real.

You will see that she had to overcome so many obstacles in her life but, at the same time, achieve wisdom and strength and the ability to know what love is and what family means.

She will rise from the hole that she dug herself into and face the biggest hurdle that she is trying to achieve in her life. And she will rise from the storm.

    The Truth of Sherise!

The day I was born was the day it began.

I was born with a twin, and premature, so I had problems learning like other people.

Everyone doesn't learn the same, but when I do try to learn, I make sure to try to understand what I'm learning. But there are just things in this world that we don't understand, and just maybe, we don't supposed to understand it.

    Looking at Life

There was a time when I had to step back and just look at my life to see where I'd been and where I wanted my life to go.

You may not have chosen your life, but you can choose your future, and how you choose it is up to you and no one else.

    The Mother of She Rise

My mother has six children, including two sets of twins, and every one had their own fathers.

My mother was going through some things, so my grandmother took all six of us in her home.

One day, my mom was watching us, and my twin and older brother were there, playing around.

My twin wanted to play with my grandmother's shotgun, so he got a chair and climbed to the top of a cabinet and grabbed the gun down. The gun was loaded.

My brothers started to fight over the gun, and I was trying to get my mom's attention to tell her what they were doing, but she was into the TV, watching it.

The gun was pointed our way, and my twin brother's finger was on the trigger. When my eldest brother pulled on the gun, the gun went off and shot my eldest brother's finger, it went right next to my mom's head, into the wall.

If my mom had moved over to the right, she would have been dead.

I think my mother was on some kind of drug, but no one really liked to tell the truth to us.

One day, my mom was driving on the highway and there was a motorcycle behind us. My mom started to have a seizure on the highway, so my twin brother had to grab the wheel and we hit a car in front of us. Then the motorcycle tried to mash on the brakes but slid right under our car.

I was so scared that day. I told my grandma I didn't want to ride with my mom again.

    Growing Up Not Knowing Anything

I grew up not knowing much about the world because I was sheltered from all that is bad to my grandmother. When I became an adult, I had to find out a lot about life the hard way.

When we did stay with our mother, there was always a man trying to come around.

    The Abandonment

I was about three years old, and my mother was staying with a family. One day, my mother left the house, and the oldest boy was watching us. I was in a room, and this boy came in the room and started rubbing his hand on my vagina. After that, I ran out of the house and walked all the way to the old house that we lived in.

My grandmother found out that I was missing, and she said they found me at our old house, sitting on the porch, crying.

After that day, my grandmother said she would make sure nothing like that happened again, so she kept on fighting the court until she came home with all six kids. I'm so grateful for what she did, and I'm also thankful that my mother had me and wanted to protect us the best way she knew how.

I watched my mom shoot herself with her gun in the head. Someone was banging on the door, and my mom grabbed the gun. The man that was banging on the door kicked the door open and the gun fell out of my mom's hands. It went off and shot her in the ear by her head.

The man that was trying to get in fell back and hit the ground, and then the police came. Then, we went to stay with my grandmother again.

But this didn't compare to what lay ahead.

    The First Friend

I was in the third grade, and I was going to an elementary school called Springdale. I met a girl who had one good eye, and the other eye was glass. She had a brother, and we all became friends.

    First Altercation

I was in the fourth grade when I met two boys that were brothers, and they were twins also.

One of the twins liked me, but I had a crush on the other brother. The twin that liked me always tried to pick on me. One day, I got tired of it, so I grabbed my coat and swung it to escape from him. The zipper slipped him in the face. I didn't know until he started to come after me, screaming.

His twin brother, the one I liked, stopped him from hitting me back. After that day, all of us became close friends.

We would walk home together with my brothers and sister.

They would come over to my house a lot after school.

After we graduated from the fifth grade, we still ended up seeing one another in middle school, but we didn't go to the same school together. Even in high school, we still said hi to one another.
