Christ and COVID-19 are two realities that collided without warning in the lives of so many during a global pandemic. God proved just how little control we have over many things we take for granted. A couple striving to survive in two different ways but in some ways the same. The life that we knew had come to a halt, and we were at the mercy of the symptoms of a contagious new virus. The virus is at the mercy of the Great Physician. The medical system took over and reigned over many rights that we once had with our loved ones. The separation from family and friends would be designed by a loving God to bring me to a place of total dependence on compassion, comfort, and companionship to the one who knows my every thought. God's supreme presence through this time of isolation was just what my soul needed to be still and know that He is God and to be a prayer warrior for my husband.

Preface

It is an honor to write down details of our journey with COVID-19 for several reasons. To express that even though the virus is unpredictable and unknown, it is nothing compared to a never-wavering, known God. I felt led by the Great Shepherd to give an account of what He has done in the lives of two imperfect people guided by a perfect God. Life experiences can be very hard if a person is facing it alone. Through every step of this challenging journey, family and friends would prove to be an added ingredient that was needed to help with the exhausting fight. Even though a virus such as COVID-19 can destroy a body, the determination to overcome was much stronger. The perseverance God has given to the human body is astounding and a testament to just how great God is as the Creator.

The medical aspect of the virus has limits as to how far it can take a body in recovery. Where medicine leaves off, God shows He is in control of it all. Every believer can take comfort from this experience in the fact that no matter what is going to happen, God is already there working everything out for His good.

Life is full of memorable moments. I am a lady who wants as many memorable moments as possible. A beautiful summer day in August of 2019 was one of those moments that I had planned for many months. My husband and I were celebrating our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary with family and friends. Everything was perfect, just like I had planned, down to the last detail. It was a day that both of us worked so hard to achieve over our twenty-five years of marriage. I have heard many people state that raising children is the hardest thing they have ever had to do. I believe that working hard to have a lasting marriage is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. This statement would soon prove to be a walk in the park.

A year later, just one day short of the very day we had our vow renewal, our lives changed forever. We had heard for months about the COVID-19 virus. My husband received his essential-worker papers so that he could continue to work during the shelter-in-place order from the government. During that time, he was working, and we were making some long-overdue changes to our house. One of those changes was painting the interior of our house that I called the Mashburn Manor. After the freshly painted walls in the living room were dry, I wanted to get started hanging our twenty-fifth vow-renewal pictures on the wall.
