    2020

The year 2020 would best be forgotten in my mind as far as I’m concerned. Actually, it all started out in December 2019 with me getting the flu and becoming terribly sick with a respiratory infection from early December 2019 up into January 2020. You see, I have asthma along with respiratory issues, which exacerbates the effects of an infection. Due to the complications, I struggled with the respiratory infection for almost two months right into the New Year of 2020.

The chain of events that followed are almost unbelievable. The New Year of 2020 began as we laid to rest several members of my husband’s immediate family. First, his aunt Annie Ruth passed away at the ripe old age of ninety-one. Then her daughter, Shelby, my husband’s first cousin, passed away from her struggle with cancer. Then the unexpected occurred! My husband’s uncle David (who was only a year older than him) passed away from a sudden heart attack. Following that, my husband’s last surviving aunt, Ella Mae, who was eighty-seven, passed away. Needless to say, we were overwhelmed with the sudden loss of so many family members all in the first four months of 2020. The year wasn’t looking too promising.

It has definitely shifted our way of living! Also, there was the unrest in our country as many protests and riots were taking place. It seems as though everything around us was falling apart. I guess that’s where my story really begins.

    The Accident

On the twenty-first of June 2020, my world became changed forever. It was like every other day; actually, it was a special day as it was Father’s Day (Sunday), which we celebrate every year. We had driven to the beach some thirty miles from our home to have dinner and to visit the ocean for a day of relaxation and fun in the sun. It was just a little getaway, we used to say. It was a bright sunny day,
