About the Author
Introduction
My name is Sabrina Jury, and I am a Christian. I became a Christian when I was seventeen years old, and I am now twenty-three. I know, only six years, but what an amazing six years it has been. Although I had known about Christianity since I was six and I had prayed a prayer to accept Jesus into my heart so I wouldn't go to hell, I wasn't raised in church and knew almost nothing about the God of Christianity.
I thought my parents' rules were God's rules. Between the ages of six and seventeen, I was a troubled and traumatized child who was very bound. I was exposed to many different thought systems and philosophies, and in some ways, I am thankful for that because I think it taught me to question things, and through that, God helped me to develop critical-thinking skills that have played a huge part in my trials and development as a Christian.
When I was six and I got saved,
my dad had told me that we were nondenominational. Aside from praying the now I lay me down to sleep prayer
and thinking when I die, I would go to heaven, all this meant nothing to me. As I grew up, I wanted more out of life than the misery and cycles that my childhood offered.
I experimented with atheism, witchcraft, Islam, Judaism, and different denominations of Christianity. I started really reading and, most importantly, studying the Bible and seeking who God was and what that meant for me when I was about fifteen, during which time I was in court testifying against my stepbrother for sexual abuse, and my dad and stepmother's tumultuous relationship was coming to a dramatic and messy end.
At this time, I was reading my Bible and praying and telling people to believe in Jesus with what limited Bible knowledge I had, but I had no power to change, and I didn't feel like I got it
until I was seventeen years old.
I read a book called Not a Fan, which helped it click for me. The ingredient I had been missing was the Holy Spirit. Before this, I had never heard about sanctification, God's will, the Holy Spirit, or freedom from sin nature.
I had been taught forgiveness of sin but not freedom from sin. I was only taught to try real hard to follow the rules, most of which were etiquette and social standards. When I had my breakthrough at seventeen, I got water baptized.
My journey since then has been filled with many fiery trials, mistakes and triumphs, agony and joy, doubt and faith, but I learned some really valuable lessons along the way. Though my journey is not done yet, I feel in my heart that I would like to share these lessons with you. I hope they bless you immensely as you grow and seek God daily.
I would like to add a disclaimer. I am not a scholar. I am not a genius, nor do I think I know everything, and I am not infallible. Anyone is free to agree or disagree with me on any topic. My aim is to share the knowledge and lessons I have accumulated in my faith journey and help others. Please study the scriptures for yourself and ask God to reveal Himself to you. Jesus is seeking our faith, as it states in Luke 18:8.
Chapter 1
Who's Your Daddy?
How can we know who the true God is? I believe there are certain evidences within religion that point to who He is. (I use the term religion loosely because God is seeking a restored relationship, not merely a religion that is man's device.)
The God of Israel is named Yahweh. Yahweh means I Am.
I believe this is a powerful statement because it is simple and very grand at the same time. No other God is named I Am. Every time someone introduces themselves, they are saying God's name before their own. Only a true God would have a name like that.
I believe Israel itself is a testament that their God
