About this ebook

I strive to contain as much descriptive power in a small space as possible, which is then released in the reading, and it should never leave the audience's expected conclusion flapping in the breeze or confused.

Rainy Day Poems for Snug Little Homes - Gregory Stall

    January

    July in Chicago

    hot and oppressing

    then thoughts turn to the

    cooling breezes of autumn

    how refreshing

    but January memories

    create a freeze frame

    of an inescapable chill

    what on earth to do

    I know

I will buy myself a kitten

    I will

Then I will name her January

    I will

and call her Jan for short

    which plays a sort

    of mind game

    in a private little sport

    Now when I think of

    a January storm

    I’ll simply have thoughts

    of my cat which makes

    me feel warm

    Leopard in a Cage

A crafty predator caught off guard in the wild

By men gathering creatures for a public zoo

    A prized possession going unreconciled

As captors are eager to display the endangered few

The cat, which was known as a majestic beast

Now finds itself in a cruel small new world

Proud hunter goes from great freedom to the least

And must forfeit his masculinity to accept being a show girl

His fate clearly appears to have been thwarted

By a seemingly higher form of earthly life

Having offspring now denied from female felines never courted

How can humans be above others when causing so much strife?

Now that this has been brought to attention

Perhaps mankind feels so bad it chooses not to mention

    A Natural Church Beckons

A cathedral of mighty arcing oaks

Invite us to stroll among them

As our Lord entered into Bethlehem

And they shelter us as only do woolen cloaks

Humming songs while walking in wildflower fields

Of black-eyed Susans and pure-white daisies

Take notice before fall prepares sad eulogies

Then do penance for your summer’s sinful yields

Gather the waning sun’s last rays that warm

As trees change color to not forget

That they will return and not to fret

Take their lead and plan for a spring to reform

Now take flowered sprig for wife

    Time to settle
