Laughter: Good Medicine for Body and Soul

About this ebook
When I was young I heard the statement that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. I don't know if that is true or not, but the Bible says, in Proverbs 17:22, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones." Medical science has proven this to be true. A person who laughs a lot is healthier and usually lives longer. I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did putting it together for you. You have a laugh for every day of the year. May God bless you as you laugh with me every day.

The Bible says, in Proverbs 17:22, A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
Day 1
A government employee found an old brass lamp in a filing cabinet. When he dusted it off, a genie appeared and granted him three wishes. I’d love an ice-cold beer right now,
he told the genie. Poof! A beer appeared. Next, the man said, I wish to be on an island, surrounded by beautiful and willing women.
Poof! He was on the island with gorgeous women fawning all over him. Oh, man, this is the life, the guy thought. I wish I never had to work again. And poof! He was back at his desk in his government office.
Day 2
One newlywed couple was planning to visit Hawaii. It’s Havaii,
said the husband.
No, it’s Hawaii,
the wife insisted. They argued about it during the entire flight, right up until they deplaned in Oahu.
The husband approached a man at the gate and asked, Can you settle an argument for us? Is this Hawaii or Havaii?
This is Havaii,
the man replied.
Ha!
said the husband to his wife. See, didn’t I tell you I’m always right?
The husband turned back to the man, shook his hand and said, Thank you.
You’re velcome.
Day 3
An Amish Family rode their buggy into town and went to a new, high-rise hotel. While the rest of the family wandered off, father and son noticed a pair of shiny walls that could slide open and close. The boy asked his father what it was. Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life.
Just then, a disheveled, sour-looking woman walked up to the magic walls and pushed a button. The walls glided open and the woman stepped into a little room. The metal walls closed behind her. A row of lights above lit up one at a time. Then the doors opened, and a glamorous, smiling blond stepped out.
The man and his son were dumb-founded. Finally, the father said to the boy, Go get your mother.
Day 4
We took the family to one of those restaurants where the walls are plastered with movie memorabilia. I went off to see the hostess about reserving a table. When I returned, I found my eleven-year-old daughter staring at a poster of Superman, standing in a phone booth. She looked puzzled. She doesn’t know who Superman is?
I whispered to my husband.
Worse,
he replied, She doesn’t know what a phone booth is.
Day 5
Psychiatry students were in their Emotional Extremes class. Let’s set some parameters,
the professor said. What’s the opposite of joy?
he asked one student.
Sadness,
he answered.
The opposite of depression?
he asked another student.
Elation,
he replied.
The opposite of woe?
the professor asked a young woman from Texas.
The Texan replied, Sir, I believe that would be giddyup.
Day 6
On vacation, in the mountains of North Carolina, my family and I had breakfast at a small café. When Dad ordered two fried eggs, he was asked by the waitress, How do you want them eggs, honey? Running, walking, or standing still?
Day 7
My kids love going to the Web, and they keep track of their passwords by writing them on Post-it notes.
I noticed their Disney password was MickeyMinnieGoofyPluto
and asked why it was so long. Because,
my son explained, they say it has to have at least four characters.
Day 8
During an autopsy I watched when I was a criminal justice student, the pathologist asked for help from an X-ray technician. A young woman set up the equipment, then we all stepped outside so the picture could be taken. Without thinking, the young woman said to the corpse, Hold your breath, please.
After the X-ray, she added, You can breathe now.
There was a pause, then the pathologist said, If that guy breathes, I’m out of here.
Day 9
A young blonde, on vacation in Louisiana, wanted a pair of genuine alligator shoes but was reluctant to pay the high New Orleans prices. I’ll just catch my own alligator,
she told one shopkeeper, so I can get a pair of shoes for free.
She stomped out of the store and headed for the swamp. Later, as the shopkeeper drove home, he spotted the blonde, standing waist-deep in a bayou, shotgun in hand, with a huge alligator closing in. She took aim and shot the creature between the eyes. The shopkeeper watched in amazement as she struggled to haul the carcass onto an embankment, where several other dead alligators were lined up. Oh no!
the blonde shouted in dismay. This one isn’t wearing any shoes either!
Day 10
One day, I went to the mall for a beauty makeover. Afterward, I stopped at the photo gallery to have pictures taken of my new look. When I got home, my eight-year-old stared at me, wide-eyed, and exclaimed, You look divorced!
Day 11
At the rehearsal dinner, before my niece’s wedding, my brother-in-law toasted the groom’s father and thanked him for a wonderful party. Then he offered a toast to
