Today, I let my mind reflect or resolve the memories of days gone by.

I thank the Lord for keeping me strong, letting me know I am not alone, just weary and worn. Struggles of life try to define my fate, but Jesus Christ showed up and gave me a way to escape.

No matter what the situation or circumstances, I still believe God is alive and gives me favor. He knows my heart. He always shows up and lets me move forward.

I am like the tree planted by the river. I will not move nor be uprooted, nor will I be defeated or unproductive. I shall rise and stay strong. Because of my faith, my youth is renewed like that of an eagle. This is Birler’s Seasons. Whatsoever I do, I shall prosper. No weapon formed against me shall prosper but be cut down like withered grass. Because I have a father whom art in heaven who sees all, knows all, who has all power everywhere at the same time, he never will leave me or forsake me. As I lift my eyes to the hills, I know my help comes from above. For the Lord is my refuge and strength, a present help in time of trouble, he is all I need to survive. I thank you, Father God, for all you do and I believe your Word is the truth.

    Quiet Time, October 21, 2015

    12:35 p.m.

First, I give honor to the most high God, creator of all this world. I give him all the praise and the glory without the urging of the Holy Spirit and most high God waking me up every night and directing me to write these poems that reflect my past and present life. I just want someone who is hurting in a life full of adversity to know that one can have peace if you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Mathew 6:33 tells us if we first seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, all things shall be added unto you.

I dedicate my poems also to my first born, my daughter, Ralisa Leshawn Southern, who I love very much. I continue to stand in the gap praying for you daily. See what you can do if you put God first. Try him, Ralisa; he is real.

To my second born, Marcus Dewayne Jones. My big baby, I love you very much. My daughter-in-law, Geneva Jones, and my five precious grand babies: Marcus Dewayne Jr., Eric Dewayne, Terance, Sharmaine, and Makiyia Marie Jones.

Special recognition to minister Kim Young for the encouraging words. She said, Why don’t you take your writings out of the storage drawer and share with others. There are testimonies in your writings that can encourage others who are struggling with the pressures of life. This is your season, Sister Birler, so write. Thank you.

Sister Charlene and Pastor Otis Washington, thanks for your prayers. My brothers Andy, Milton, Maurice, Laurice, and Harold Southern.

My Granny Ruth E. Cosby-Southern (deceased), Uncle Dalton Frank Southern, Mr. and Mrs. Andy, Lucy Southern, Patricia Hardin, and Deborah Jones.

My best friends Joyce E. Evans, Irene Stevens, and Arleen Beecham…surprise, surprise. Carol and Bobbie Parker, my Illinois landlords. Carol, I thank you for your encouraging words and for your friendship. God is good.

    The Pathway
