    Several years ago, my husband and I had planted several varieties of tomatoes and were looking forward to enjoying the fruits of our labor. Sunday morning of Memorial Day weekend, we discovered that a bug had gotten to the cherry tomatoes and had begun eating one of the perfectly round light-green tomatoes. To our surprise, the bug had left what appeared to be two eyes, a mouth, and a scar on the face. Our imaginations ran wild, and with some fun use of craft supplies, Tomato Zombie was born.

    Since we didn’t have plans for the afternoon, we decided to snap some pictures of our little zombie roaming the yard. With more free time on Monday, we decided that Tomato Zombie needed to continue his adventure along the shores of Fernandina Beach, Florida. And so he did.

    The Beginning

    Once upon a time, there was a little cherry tomato who only wanted to grow up to be part of Mama Jo’s bestest ever spaghetti sauce. Sadly, that was not to be, for out of the moss came an evil curse—the dreaded Spaghetti Moss Zombie. He forced the little tomato to drink the hot and spicy drink of millions of crushed tomatoes until he became a tomato zombie! The little tomato could feel himself changing with each gulp. He felt so strange. His head felt like it was on fire, and he could feel himself growing. How can this be? he thought. How did the Spaghetti Moss Zombie do it? He had given the little tomato arms, legs, and a body! The
