COYOTE FINISHERS
It just sat and stared into space like I did in 9th grade as my algebra teacher tried to explain polynomials. The coyote in question wasn’t pondering complex equations, but it was suddenly stalled by the previous sounds I had been sending across the landscape. I don’t mind sending a V-Max across hundreds of yards of dead space for a dead dog, but this coyote was well beyond my 600-yard limit and a nudge closer would make him larger than life in my reticle. The question now was what nudge would do the trick?
Whether you see it or not, coyotes often have a tough time in the commitment department. If you call on the edge of dense cover that commitment may be as hidden as the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. If you hunt open country with wide views, you may witness the commitment conundrum in real time as coyotes peek over ridges or pace on picked cornfield edges. Nighttime hunters may not witness the commitment puzzle at all due to a wary coyote staying just outside of the illumination zone.
This definitely represents a setback
