SAVE THAT HEAD

In early 2023 I stopped by the fur auction in Glenns Ferry, Idaho. I wasn’t there to purchase anything, I was mostly just curious on how other trappers had done. The fur tables were loaded with bobcat, fox, coyote and other assorted furs ready for sale. At the end of the line were a half-dozen 5-gallon buckets filled to the brim with raw skulls. As I looked them over, a woman with a clipboard was making notes. “We’re seeing more and more trappers bringing in the heads!” she said to no one in particular.

We spoke briefly of the dropping fur prices and how trappers were looking to make whatever they could. Behind the buckets were several gallon ziplock bags filled with bobcat feet. “People will buy those too!” She said pointing to the bags. With dropping fur prices, trappers everywhere are looking
