The physical, emotional, and spiritual battles we face on a daily basis can wear us down. Sometimes, it seems we face overwhelmingly impossible odds. Who am I?

My friend, my name is Steve Allison. I am a happily married man and have two children who make me proud. I am a Christian who accepted Jesus into my heart at an early age. That being said, I am a layperson. I have not been through seminary. My learning of scriptures comes from college and years of going to church. As a result, this study will not delve into the original language of the Word of God nor do I intend to use commentaries.

Much of this book will be my own personal perspective. You are not going to find long Christian words like sanctification. Everything will be simple. I am also going to avoid any discussion of politics, so no worries there. I pray that God provides me the words to encourage you and inspire you to win the battles you are fighting.

    Why Gideon?

Gideon has always been one of my favorite people in the Old Testament. I think that is because I identify with him. Although he had great faith in God, he had to be convinced that God was on his side. So sometimes I feel unworthy too, and I find it hard to believe that God would want to help someone as insignificant as me. Just like Moses, it can be easy for us to believe we don’t have what it takes to do God’s will.

The intent of this book is not to heap praises on Gideon for his obedience to God. After all, Gideon was but a human being. My intention is to heap praises on God for the way He worked through Gideon to gain a victory for His people.

Gideon reminds me of the father whose story is told in the New Testament, in Mark 9:14–29. Jesus asks that a boy who is possessed with an evil spirit be brought before Him. The father of the boy expresses some doubt as to whether Jesus can drive the spirit out; after all, the disciples were unable to. In Mark 9:24, we read, And straightway the father of the child cried out and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

How many of us can relate to the father? We can see God’s hand in creation. We have witnessed His previous miracles in our life. Yet we doubt how God can help us achieve victory in the next situation that we face. Most likely, you know the rest of the story. Jesus did indeed drive out the evil spirit from the boy. Just as
