    Introduction

The pages of this book are full of personal experiences prior to and after my walk with the Lord. God’s involvement in those experiences; how He made Himself real in every situation; how He showed me His unconditional love, guidance, and protection; how He taught me and helped me to grow. I also share some of the amazing encounters I had with Him and the spiritual dreams and visions He allowed me to have.

I am not a Bible scholar, a preacher, or a well-known evangelist. I am a simple woman whose life has been touched by the grace of God. The reason I will share my life with all of you is to testify to the goodness of God, what He has done in me and for me throughout all these years. His purpose (and mine) is to bring hope to your hearts and to shine the light on who God is and who He wants to be for you.

The majority of people believe that God exists. Some just believe in a superior being who is somewhere up there to whom they pray in times of trouble, but they are not interested in learning about Him or become affiliated to a religious entity or church. Others identify with a particular doctrine, and they believe that being a good person is all they need to go to heaven. There is a third group that have joined a religious entity that believes in good works as a way to salvation, but they are more interested in men’s doctrine than pursuing a relationship with God. Perhaps they have never been taught that it is possible to have a personal relationship with the Creator of the Universe. There’s another group of believers who are drawn to God; they want to know the God they believe in; they want to have a relationship with Him.

Is it possible to believe in God and not know Him at all? Absolutely. Knowing about God is one thing, but knowing God—who He really is, His character and attributes—is a totally different story. A large percentage of the people who profess believing in God call themselves Christians. However, most of them have not met their Messiah on a personal level. They do not know the Bible, and they definitely do not know how to relate to the God they say they believe in.

Why is it so difficult to relate to God? Sometimes it is due to our upbringing, what we have been taught. It has also a lot to do with our relationship with our earthly father. If we had a distant, absent or in some cases violent father, we have trouble imagining a loving heavenly Father. Other times, it is tied to our religious background, the traditions of men, or how we perceive God in relation to the suffering in this world, anger toward God due to unanswered prayers. And the list goes on.

The truth is that we have a loving, caring, merciful, and gracious heavenly Father who created us to do life with Him. He created us for His pleasure, to know Him and love Him and have fellowship with Him. That was the perfect world of Adam and Eve until Satan stole paradise from them, and from all of humankind, by making them sin against God.

Since the fall of man in the garden, Satan has been trying to deceive man into believing that God is a demanding God, not as loving and forgiving as many would like Him to be. Another lie of the devil is that God is the author of all suffering in this world; otherwise, He would stop it, right? The Bible says that Satan is a liar and the father of lies. His purpose is to inflict pain, shame, guilt, and condemnation to us so that we will live defeated lives and feel unworthy of the love of God and of no use for the kingdom!

We live in a fallen world where there’s evil and terrible things may happen. God never intended for us to live this kind of life. He gave us free will and every good thing that He had created for our enjoyment. Unfortunately, the devil hated us from the beginning; we were God’s children, and we had everything he had lost when he rebelled against God. So his plan is to destroy us spiritually, emotionally and physically.

Although we died spiritually when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the fellowship between Adam and God was broken at that moment, God still loved humanity and wanted to restore our fellowship with Him. He never gave up on us! He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to this world, so by becoming man (second Adam), He would recover and restore everything that the first Adam lost in the garden.

Jesus came to earth to restore freedom to human beings—He came to fulfill Isaiah 61:1: He was anointed to preach good tidings to the poor, to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to those who are bound. With His death and resurrection, Christ bought our salvation, conquered death for us, and defeated Satan. He gave us a Comforter, a Counselor, a Teacher, a Guide, an Encourager, and the One who empowers us—His Holy Spirit. Through Him who dwells in us, we are able to continue the work of the kingdom; we become His hands and feet and do what He commanded us to do.

In Matthew 10:8, Jesus sent the twelve apostles and commanded them to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. He went on to say in Luke 10:19, Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. Jesus warned us about the devil, but also assured us about the purpose of His coming in John 10:10: the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. Before He ascended to heaven, Jesus gave the apostles the Great Commission: Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age’ (Matthew 28:18–20).

If Jesus restored our freedom, why are so many of us living in bondage? If Jesus gave us His authority and power through the Holy Spirit to overcome the power of the enemy, why is it that the enemy is still overpowering us in certain areas of our lives. If Jesus’s last words on the cross were it is finished, why are we waiting for God to do something about our situations when He has given us the authority to do it ourselves? It is obvious that Jesus gave us every tool that is required to live victorious lives, yet many Christians are living defeated lives.

We have believed the lies of the enemy; we have learned to accept our pains and disappointments, our broken relationships, our illnesses and financial lack. We talk about our situations as if they were to be part of our lives forever; we own them. We say things like, It is in my DNA. My mother and grandmother had diabetes, and now is my turn. Or this is my life. I can never get ahead. I’ll always have financial problems. Or this is how I am, and there’s nothing I can do about it. Etc.

Referring to the devil, Jesus said in John 8:44, "He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." Satan will do everything in his power to make us believe his lies.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, I would like to speak to you about the truth. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Jesus is also the Word (John 1:1). By knowing Jesus, we know the truth. Jesus also said in John 8:32, Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." To expose the lies of the enemy, we should know first who God is and His character. If we know in our hearts that God is love; that He is wonderful, merciful, gracious, Comforter, Counselor; that He is our wisdom, Prince of Peace, Healer, Provider, Defender, Good Father, Savior, Redeemer, the God of more than enough, King of the universe, everlasting God, tower of refuge, ever-present help in times of need, then we will be able to discern that anything else that does not align with the knowledge of God is from the enemy or our own flesh.

I understand that this is not as easy as
