Kristen needed a break. She was an only child who had been pampered her entire life. Tonight she was going to change all of that. She wanted to do this one thing for herself. It was time to try. Time to move forward. If only to dream for a brief moment.

And to God in heaven, for which this story would

    Not be possible without him.

    I

August was drying up in the city of Copper Canyon. School would be starting soon with rumors in the crowded hallways. People were changing these days, with their thoughts undesired to be heard. It was a time not far from now with feelings of sorrow that carried its own weight from one lonely house to the next. The suburbs of this fair city were not unlike others. The only real difference was found in the minds of the occupants.

Downtown in Copper Canyon was a different story. Skyscrapers as tall as the eye could see from one busy block to the next. Other smaller buildings as well were developed from countless hours of pain and sweat. Creating a city takes time and dedication. The end of time would come when people couldn’t wonder anymore. Without hope or desire, a beating heart cannot change. Without change nothing is possible. And Copper Canyon had been holding on to dreams for a long time now. Reflecting as the sun set each evening in the west. Raising children to take after hardworking mothers and fathers. Our purpose in life is yet to be revealed if only for a brief second.

Something in this beautiful city was bringing its people to the cusp of a new beginning. Time would tell of understanding to unravel something that everyone is looking for. Something very special. Something worth waiting for. Something to hold on to.

Tears can change to smiles and smiles to tears. Under a night sky with stardust in the heavens the city was breathtaking. Brilliant lighting from all around the buildings made a person dream without the fear of being woken up. Maybe the city had always been that way. Maybe the people too. Maybe wondering about this life is really what’s important. I’d like to think it is.

When strangers become good friends over time they create a bond that feels right. A connection. Someone to talk to. And if you’re lucky maybe someone to love. Someone to love you back. Someone.

A seventeen-year-old girl is about to make a very important decision tonight. One that will change her life forever. And from great minds come great beginnings. Which rules you more, your head or your heart? What really matters to you in this life? Is it security? Love? Status? Or is it the simple fact of living and feeling this precious gift from God?

There’s a lot to think about if only for a short while. Certain people can cloud your judgment and try and bring you down with them. Make you hate life and everything in it. Stand up to those who criticize your life or your life’s work. Make them see the beauty in you. Everyone was once innocent. And so everyone was once the same.

And so begins the story of a young girl. A poet to listen to and a smile that brightens the darkest of hearts. I introduce to you Kristen Cloverfield.

Just inside the city limits lived the Cloverfields in a beautiful suburb. Many trees of all varieties flourished there. Strong winds were alive tonight, and so the air was filled with wonder for those who felt the need to. Wonder was all some people had these days. The wind was speaking its voice tonight.

Kristen could hear it from her bedroom window. She was deep in thought and sitting on the edge of her bed.

The Cloverfields lived in a two-level house with a basement underground. The house was painted white with black trim around the windows, and the front door was painted a stately forest green with a gold doorknob and lock. It was one of the more alluring homes on Maple Street. Very proper with the approval from many. Very clean and tidy on the inside.

Kristen’s parents were very loving. Caroline recently retired from teaching tenth-grade English just this last June. Her husband, Carl, had been a police officer up until last year for their local area. Both parents had worked very hard to succeed in their fields. Many years of loyalty and sacrifice. Very independent people indeed. Very kind. They were both fifty-six years of age.

Biting her lower lip, Kristen contemplated her dreams outside this house of hers. She was taken care of completely. She wanted for nothing. Her parents had given her everything she had ever asked for. Except the car. That was something she had to work for if she wanted one. No worries. None of that mattered now.

Kristen was going to run away from home tonight. Her parents might never forgive her this action against them. She planned on keeping in touch with her parents by phone, and her hopes would have to take care of her. She was seventeen years old and would be turning eighteen in a week. That meant that her parents couldn’t forcibly bring her back home once she left. She would be considered an adult and could do what she pleases. Her parents would have to abide by her wishes.

She said a small prayer to Jesus on the edge of her bed with eyes closed and head bent to the floor. It would be up to her to make friends along the way. Alone she would fail. Together life meant something. We were meant to learn from people in our journey through life. We can lose ourselves to despair and misery and be saved by togetherness and love. You decide.

It was eleven thirty as Kristen looked at the alarm clock. Her stomach was twisted up in knots. She was having doubts. Time to shake them off. For the last three summers Kristen had saved her money from babysitting kids in the neighborhood. Her net worth was a modest 4,400 dollars. It wasn’t the most to live off, but she was going to give it a try. The Cloverfields had two bedrooms in their house. Kristen’s parents at the top of the stairs and down the hallway at the end and Kristen’s, which was directly at the top of the stairs. Each of these rooms contained a bathroom. There was one additional bathroom on the main floor. All three had bathtubs and showers with sinks and toilets. Having your own bathroom was a luxury these days. Some people forget how good they really have it in life.

Kristen’s bedroom door was closed. Her parents had gone to sleep an hour ago. She decided to take a quick shower before dressing and packing. She peeled off all her clothes and threw them in her hamper. There was a lot of clean clothes she could pack after her shower. Walking to her bathroom, she stepped in and closed the bathroom door behind her. She was completely naked and stood in front of her bathroom mirror. The mirror showed what the audience wanted to see. Her body can now be described in full. A precious piece of art. Her beauty revealed in all its glory.

Kristen’s hair was dark blond and ran down to the tops of her breasts.

Beautiful curls spilled everywhere and were very pleasing to the eye. Eyebrows were full and alive. Very sexy to the eye. Her eyes were made up of four colors. Brown, blue, gray, and green. A generous mix of each would send someone spiraling if they were in deep discussion with her. They were very haunting and dazzling all at once. Intense was the perfect word for those eyes that spellbind. Her nose was very becoming and full bodied. It blended perfectly with the rest of her facial features. Her mouth screamed to be kissed, and those lips of hers were full and ripe. Her ears were delicate and pure and were quite perfect for her head. Those teeth of hers shot down any dentist.

Pearl white and clean with praise, there was no contest when comparing her smile to someone else’s. Her neck was long and very lovely. There was beauty marks scattered around her flesh all over her body and were all spaced out evenly with love. Arms that were brown from the summer sun were resting at her sides now. Hands were strong that lent to long artistic fingers.

She had written a lot of poetry with those fingers over the years. She was proud of her work and hoped that people would accept her writing if she tried publishing in the future. She was optimistic and would do her best to remain so. Kristen’s breasts were very large. Very beautiful indeed. Her nipples were hard, and her areolas were twice the size of a silver dollar. Guys had a hard time focusing in class when she was present and accounted for. Her stomach was lean and had small downy blond hairs decorating the surface. The same went for much of her body. That back of hers was strong and blemish-free. In fact her entire body was blemish-free. Hard to believe but there it was. Perfection and beauty made one. Her rear end was also voluptuous like her chest. She was very pretty. A knockout that could rhyme with the best of them. Just below her navel was a forest of dark-blond pubic hair. It went everywhere. She had never shaved down there before, and she felt more womanly having all of her original hair. She found pubic hair to be sexy, and she embraced her own with love. Kristen’s thighs moved on to two gorgeous legs. Her feet were strong to hold up so much beauty, but they had been for years now. Toenails painted the color of turquoise. And she left her earrings on. Pierced two times in each ear. Silver threads dangling from silver hoops. It was time to shower.

Turning on the tap, the water turned very warm after a couple of seconds. Kristen liked showering. She liked the idea of getting clean. The idea of smelling good. She stepped into the shower and closed the curtain. Her hand immediately went to a fresh bar of Dove white soap. Soaping up from head to toe, her ritual went like clockwork. A series of events that were as regular for Kristen as they were for the rest of us. Once she was rinsed off she grabbed the shampoo. The fragrance of her shampoo was powerful and very pleasing to most people. Coconut. If you have never smelled it on someone then you don’t know where I’m going with this. It smells wonderful. Very exotic and pleasing to the nose for most people. After shampooing her hair, she rinsed clean and stood under the warm water for a couple of minutes. Her stomach felt a little better, but she was going to have to get with it if she was going to pull this thing off. She tried focusing on her thinking more than her feeling. Which was hard for her because she thought more with her heart instead of her head. She would have to try. Drying herself off, she hung up her towel and stepped in front of the mirror once more. She took a moment to comb her hair and put on deodorant. Then she took a washcloth and cleaned out her ears with warm water. Brushing her teeth, she tried to remain calm.

She spit in the sink and then brushed her tongue. After mouthwash and wiping her lips dry, Kristen opened the bathroom door and moved to her dresser. A form-fitting navy-blue top was put on over her bra. Laced panties and a pair of sweatpants completed the ensemble. A pair of white crew socks were put on afterward. Kristen always let her hair air dry. Today was no different. It would take care of itself, and she would take care of herself, God willing. She sat on the edge of her bed to catch her breath. It was now or never. She needed to let go. Just let these worries float away. Wonder without wanting.

Hope without fear. Happiness without suffering. She closed her eyes and took the deepest breath she could muster up. Letting it slowly out, she stood up and went to her closet. Digging out her black one piece of luggage, she opened it up and set it on her bed. It was small, but then again she wasn’t packing all of her belongings. This would do just fine. At the top of the luggage case was a handle that extended out. At the bottom was a wheel on either side for easy travel. Kristen moved to her dresser next. Her top drawer was panties, socks, and bras. She packed seven pairs of each and moved to the next drawer.

Shirts. She packed seven and went to the last drawer on the bottom. Jeans and shorts. The weather was still nice in Copper Canyon, and September was just around the corner. She packed one pair of jeans and four pairs of shorts. She was optimistic about the temperature in the coming weeks. Her purse would go over her head and rest upon her right shoulder when the time came. That left the matter of all her money. She kept it all rolled up neatly with a rubber band. Once she got to a hotel, she could find a better way of keeping it. Right now she put it in her purse and zipped it shut. Grabbing a box of Ziploc bags that she purchased the day before Kristen went into her bathroom and started filling them with toiletries. There were eight Ziploc bags that she packed when all was said and done. All of her clothes and toiletries fit perfectly in her luggage case. She zipped it all the way shut. The bag would have to be carried down the stairs with the other handle that
