At My Father's Feet - Ms. May

    Tomorrows by Our Today’s

How many times have you told yourself, I’ll do that tomorrow? All of us have decisions we have to make every day of our lives. Many of these choices we make form our very future, whether we know it or not. They are like small drops of water at first but add up to form a strong current that sweeps our feet out from under us and carries us through life into places and situations we sometimes wish we didn’t have to experience.

A man once told me that a Christian that really loves the Lord Jesus Christ is like a tumbleweed blown by the wind. Sometimes they find themselves blown against a barbed-wire fence and get caught there for a period of time, until the wind changes directions and they are blown in another direction in life. This is being directed by God’s Holy Spirit power, according to God’s purpose for your life. Knowing all, from the beginning of time to the end of time, God sends you to where He can use you for the benefit of others and for the spiritual growth of your own inner man.

On the other hand, you and I don’t know the future we have before us. We make our plans and have our dreams in life of what we would like to have happened, but very rarely in our own strength and wisdom do we ever see those plans and dreams come to pass. Oh, we might get the education we set out to obtain, we may marry someone of our choice, buy a house or car we think we will like, move to a different location, thinking each time we make these choices our life will be more full and happier. Much to our surprise, these big choices usually leave us empty and dissatisfied, not because we made a bad decision in our choices but because we forgot about all those little choices and decisions that add up to make our tomorrows in life.

Looking in reflection, many decisions I could have made and did make would have totally changed who and what I am today. My family members would have been different people. The friends I have would have been different personalities than I now know. The type of work to earn a living would have been something much different than what I have done in the past. Where I live would not be the same place I’m now at. The health of my body would or could have been much worse. All of these decisions were all small ones in themselves at the time they were made, but they have formed what I’m now experiencing in life as they carry me along as a strong current. It would be extremely difficult to change my course and go in a different direction in life at this point and time. All of my tomorrows are decided by my yesterdays, forming a torrent that is carrying me through life today.

The best major decision I have ever made was giving my life to Jesus Christ. His word tells us that we can make our decisions, but He will direct our footsteps in life to give us an expected end. Knowing what is before me, in my tomorrows, He changed the direction of the reactions to the choices I made that were wrong and turned them into blessings instead of curses in my life.

None of us have all the answers of life, but Jesus is the life of the whole world and the entire universe. When we compare our wisdom, knowledge, and strength to His, it is less than a drop of water in all the oceans and seas of the earth. Since He is all wise and knowledgeable of all things, wouldn’t it be better to let Him direct our tomorrows by the decisions He helps us to make today? He even tells us that if we lack wisdom we can ask Him for it, and He will give it to us in abundance and not rebuke us for asking Him!

What will your tomorrows be? I know what mine is and will be because I’ve placed them into
