About this ebook

A Widow I Became is a true fairy-tale love story that ended too soon by the cruelty of cancer but victorious in Jesus for God's glory. I want to share my testimony and my husband's testimony of our cancer journey and ultimately his passing for God's glory. You may ask the question, how can death be for God's glory? Upon my husband's passing is when I realized this was/is for God's glory. As I open up and share a glimpse of my journey, my prayer is that you see the realness of God, the faithfulness of God and the strength of God through difficult times in life, with the hope of drawing people to God.

A young widow I became when he took his last breath at the age of forty-four on May 29, 2019, at 8:15 a.m. On paper, I am either single or widowed; but in my heart, I am still married to the love of my life.

I believe wholeheartedly that God has a plan and a purpose for my life, and He has upgirded me with strength for the journey and I must walk in it.

    Foreword

I met Vau and Shevetta Washington in Chicago while we were under the same spiritual leadership in 1998. After they both committed their lives to Christ and Vau began doing the Lord’s work, my husband and I were instantly drawn to them. We saw them as a beautiful couple who were young and passionate about the work of the kingdom.

My husband and I formed a relationship with the Washington family and traveled often to Indianapolis to support them as they were building the ministry. We understood the need to encourage them on the journey because it can be rather lonesome. I found Vau and Shevetta faithfully pushing forward with joy in their hearts and a smile on their faces. We fell in love with their entire family.

Their children were well behaved, and Shevetta was such an attentive mother and wife. I recall Aniya had an allergy to certain foods, and Shevetta was always diligently observing everything in order to protect her daughter. She was a perfect example of a devoted wife and mother. I could see the look on Vau’s face as they were together.

After hearing about Vau’s illness, my husband and I were moved to fasting and praying while standing in God’s presence for this family. I was compelled to reach out to the family and pray with them as God said to speak words of life to them. During this whole ordeal, they remained resilient in their faith.

When I was contacted by Shevetta regarding her desire to publish their story, I was thrilled to be a part of it. There are many people struggling in marriage and dealing with oppositions in various forms. I’m confident that their journey of love and faith will inspire people all over the globe.

This story will grab at your heart and tug at your emotions. It will inspire you to fight the good fight of faith and believe God no matter what you face. The Bible declares that love is as strong as death. Through this heroic journey of faith and love, you will be empowered, motivated, and challenged to keep pushing forward over every mountain and walk through every valley with the hand of God holding you.

I encourage you to read this book as Shevetta emptied her heart and bared her soul to help others. I pray that it will spread like a
