Boarding the plane, I take off for my new adventure. I am returning to the United Kingdom to promote my new book. I have two radio shows booked with many other adventures to follow! Dinner is served. After we eat, I take a cold pill that knocks me right out. I am awakened by the flight attendant announcing that breakfast is served. Did someone say coffee? With the coffee comes papers to fill out for customs as we are landing soon. It felt so strange to fill in the box that said I was there for business. This was a book tour for me. Who would have ever thought?
I have a window seat, and I get goose bumps looking out the window at the country I cherish so. Even though I am Italian and Irish, my heart belongs to the United Kingdom. (As a side note, I have never been to either of these countries. I still have family in Italy, but they don’t speak English, and I don’t speak Italian.)
I always like to take the latest possible flight out of the United States, so I can have a full day in the United Kingdom. Sleep is overrated—Anyway, I did sleep seven hours on the plane, more than enough to go about the day.

LSE Northumberland House, London
Once I collected my suitcase and passed through customs, I was on a mission for coffee. Yes, coffee again; and yes, I have a problem. I am currently seeking medical attention for it, although I don’t think there is a cure.
After getting my caffeine fix, I was ready to head to my beloved London. Taking a taxi to LSE Northumberland House where I am staying would have cost me a small mint, so I called the BHRC minivan service, and they delivered me to the door for half the price. (Check next time you do this trip. It may be cheaper for you also.) I liked taking this service because there were only a few people in the van and, as a side note and bonus, you get a tour of London for free. The driver was quite knowledgeable about the history of the city and pointed out several interesting landmarks along the way. Since my hotel was so far from the airport (near Big Ben), I was the last one out of the van.
I chose the LSE Northumberland House because of its proximity to Big Ben. I totally adore Big Ben and wanted to be able to take photos of it at night. LSE Northumberland House is in the Soho district on the West End and within walking distance of Trafalgar Square, Buckingham, and Covent Garden. It is also across the street from the Sherlock Holmes restaurant. Yes, I did eat there, but more on that later.
In addition to the location, the LSE Northumberland House boasted another big selling point—private bathrooms. Sharing a bathroom with a floor of strangers does not do it for me. This room did have its own bathroom, but I must confess—I have never in my life used the toilet and had my feet in the shower at the same time, different for sure.
The room contained just a bed and a desk that also served as a dresser. That setup was fine for me as I was there for one night only and, really, was only going to be in the room just long enough to sleep.
The interior design of this hotel was impressive, especially the stairway. The stairs were covered in blue tile. The spindles were made of wrought iron with a pretty pattern. The stairway design was duplicated in an intricate railing that surrounded a balcony window. The overall image made for an elegant, but welcoming, atmosphere.
Off I went exploring. If you go out of the hotel, take a left, and go up the street, you will walk right into Trafalgar Square. It was a cloudy day yet still nice to be out, so there were many folks out and about. I got the biggest kick out of a huge blue rooster on one of the pillars near the fountain. Last time I was there, it was a boat.
Snapping photos as I went, I ended up in Piccadilly Circus, which always reminds me of Times Square in New York City. It must be because of all the hustle and bustle about it.
Coming back to the hotel, the road forked. I was supposed to go right. Well, take a guess as to what I did. You got it! I went left. I kept walking and thinking, This is not right.
I turned around and went the other way. Oh well, life is an adventure, right?
I knew that I wanted to eat at the restaurant across the street from the hotel, The Sherlock Holmes. I deposited my purchases at the hotel and headed across the street to the restaurant. One good thing I can say about traveling alone is that you can always get a table. It may not be the best, but it’s a table. I was simply starving as I had not eaten since the plane. Wait, was that food? I can’t remember now. It was way too many hours ago; my tummy is yelling, Feed me!
I had their fish and chips and was totally blown away by the sheer size of the fish. It literally hung over the plate. I am a big fish eater, so this was fine with me. Nope, I could not even finish it. I made a mental note that this is where I would have breakfast tomorrow before leaving for Liverpool.
I was seated on the second floor, which also housed some items on Sherlock Holmes. They had two rooms made up to look like Sherlock’s drawing room. I took some photos, but they had mesh on the glass, so the shots are nothing to be excited about.
I went back across the street to grab the camera battery and put the other in its place. I know me well enough to know that I would have
