About this ebook

Vision—what is it? Vision is a physical, mental, and spiritual phenomena of enlightenment. Phenomenal Vision: Eyesight to Life Sight is an intriguing exploration of Rev. Dr. Leonidas A. Johnson's pioneering insight into the relationship between eyesight and the various ways we view and process information in life. The aim of this book is not only to help teach how to process information about our world that encompasses a biblical worldview but also to help develop a biblically sound decision-making strategy. According to him, "next to life itself, God's most precious gift is sight—the window to this thing called life." Poor life sight is a preventable tragedy. Why view life through a dirty or fogged-up window? Poor life sight is correctable. Dr. Leonidas has spent a lifetime helping people to see. In these last days, he has written this book to help you to see. To live a phenomenal life, you must have phenomenal vision. To have phenomenal vision you must have phenomenal life sight. Introduction

Next to life itself, God’s most precious gift is sight—the window to this mysterious thing called life.

Vision—what is it? Vision is a physical, mental, and spiritual phenomena of enlightenment. When I say phenomena, I mean all the different aspects of vision that come together to make it something that can only be described as remarkable, extraordinary, a mystery, a heavenly wonder. When I say enlightenment, I am referring to the ah-ha moment. The moment of sudden insight or discovery; the elusive moment of perception and understanding; the spark from dark to light; the divine creative twinkle from nothingness to something.

Approximately 80 percent of what we learn on this magnificent and extraordinary planet called Earth is through our eyes. We, as humans, have five senses: the eyes to see, the tongue to taste, the nose to smell, the ears to hear, and the skin to touch. Of our five senses, vision is the most important and accounts for more neurosensory input to our brain than our sense of hearing, touch, smell, and taste combined.

I have spent a lifetime helping people to see. I have learned that physical vision is very similar to spiritual vision, and the mind is the bridge between the two. Vision is a phenomena, a remarkable, extraordinary, heavenly wonder of enlightenment. A general understanding of physical vision and the ability to compare that understanding with mental and spiritual vision is what I shall label as phenomenal life-sight vision. In other words, the ability to link eyesight to life sight requires more than ordinary vision; it requires phenomenal vision. Vision is a wonderful gift that should never be taken for granted. Vision is something to be celebrated! In fact, phenomenal life-sight vision can help you live a celebrated and phenomenal life!

Do you want to rise above mediocracy? Do you want to sore like an eagle? Do you want to live victoriously? Do you want to live with courage? Do you want your life to be full of strength? Do you want to live with confidence? Do you want to live the abundant life? Do you really want to taste life and live with all the gusto life has to offer? I ask you, do you want to live a phenomenal life? If so, let me help you see more clearly. Let me help you see beyond that which is obvious to the most casual observer. Let me help you see with phenomenal vision.

What is that? Who am I? Well, you may have heard of King Leonidas, the Spartan king. I’m Reverend Leonidas the Optometrist, soldier of the cross, defender of the truth, watchman on the wall, ambassador for Christ! I’m a licensed eye doctor and ordained minister. Life is important and very valuable. Vision is important and very valuable. As a minister, your life is my chief concern. As an optometrist, your vision is my chief concern. Someone once said, Next to life, itself, God’s most precious gift is sight, and to the ministry of this great gift the profession of optometry dedicates itself (unknown).

An excellent statement attributed to an unknown author. With the benefit of phenomenal life-sight vision, one can clearly see that God’s precious gift of sight is the window to this mysterious thing called life. Next to life itself, God’s most precious gift is sight—the window to this mysterious thing called life.

    Physical Vision

    Chapter 1

    Light

Where there is much light, there is much sight,

where there is little light, there is little sight, where there is no light, there is no sight.

In order to see, there must be light. Where there is much light, there is much sight; where there is little light, there is little sight; where there is no light, there is no sight.

Light—what is it? On the physical side, what does science teach us about light? We know that light is not a solid, liquid, gas, or plasma. Light is a wave of electromagnetic radiation. Electromagnetic radiation occurs over a wide range of wavelengths, from long radio waves to short gamma ray waves. The wavelengths visible to the human eye occupy a very narrow band, from about 700 nanometers (one nanometer is one billionth of a meter) for red light down to about 400 nanometers for violet light. Infrared light which have long wavelengths and ultraviolet light which have short wavelengths are wavelengths next to the visible spectrum that are often referred to as light.

Science also teaches us that light has a dual nature; light is both a wave and a particle. Light particles are photons without mass that move at the speed of light and have energy proportional to their frequency. In other words, light can be thought of as energy moving through time, space, and matter in a wave-like manner, consisting of tiny power-packed particles of pure energy.

    Chapter 2

    The Process

God’s divine spark of life and sight are two sides of the same coin that remain unsolved mysteries.

The process of vision is quite remarkable. Even though we know a lot about the process of physical vision, there is a mystery that surrounds it. From the sun comes light, also known as electromagnetic radiation. This radiation travels through space at a rate of 299,792,458 meters per second (186,282 miles per second).
