The Law Of Attraction & Manifestation Blueprint For Beginners - Spiritual Awakening Academy

Chapter 1: What is the Law of Attraction

When Rhonda Byrne's book, The Secret, came out in 2006, it became an international sensation. With its release, the Law of Attraction became part of popular culture. The Law of Attraction is a philosophy for manifesting one's desires through thought. It is based on the premise that everything in this universe is made of energy, including our thoughts.

Suppose that someone wants to attract financial wealth into their lives. In that case, they can make this happen by focusing on thoughts of financial success. The vibrational energy of these thoughts will align with the vibrational energy of abundance. Because of this, financial success will appear in this person's life. There are other components to applying the Law of Attraction, which we will get into later, but this is the essence of this philosophy.

However, Byrne's book was not the first to discuss the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction was part of a growing New Thought movement in America that emerged in the early 19th century. The New Thought movement was centered on the theory of mind over matter. There was a growing interest as to how the mind could affect matter.

The New Thought movement can be traced back to New England transcendentalism, Hermeticism, Hinduism, and even parts of the Bible. In transcendentalism, it is believed that the mind is more powerful than matter. At the same time, Hermeticism led to the study of alchemy. From the bible, some verses speak of the mind's ability to manifest. Mark 11:24 reads: Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Toward the end of the 19th century, America was introduced to teachers such as Swami Vivekananda. He gave lectures on the mind's ability to affect matter from a Hindu perspective.

In America, one of the founders of the New Thought movement was Phineas Quimby. A clockmaker, Quimby was also a self-described mentalist. Quimby contracted tuberculosis. At the time, there were no established cures for the disease. Quimby took up horseback riding as a way to distract himself from his predicament. Horseback riding gave him a sense of exhilaration, and he noticed that it temporarily relieved him of his symptoms. Quimby's experience led him to study the relationship that the mind had over the body. His study was the genesis of the mind-body medicine movement in America. The term Law of Attraction had yet to be created, but Quimby made reference to it when he wrote:

The trouble is in the mind, for the body is only the house for the mind to dwell in, and we put a value on it according to its worth. Therefore if your mind has been deceived by some invisible enemy into a belief, you have put it into the form of a disease, with or without your knowledge. By my theory or truth, I come in contact with your enemy and restore you to your health and happiness. This I do partly mentally and partly by talking till I correct the wrong impressions and establish the Truth, and the Truth is the cure.

The actual term The Law of Attraction did not appear in print until 1877. Russian author Helena Blavatsky used the term when writing about the occult and the powers of attraction between matter and spirit.

The first time the Law of Attraction was discussed in detail was in an essay titled, The Law of Success. The Law of Success was part of a larger work titled Your Forces and How to Use Them. Published in 1887, the essay's author, Prentice Mulford, became a central figure in the New Thought movement. Your Forces and How to Use Them laid the groundwork for understanding the Law of Attraction, though it never referred to it by name.

Other authors of the New Though movement began to emerge in the late 1800s. These included Henry Wood, who wrote God's Image in Man, and Ralph Waldo Trine, who wrote What All the Word's A-Seeking. These authors expanded Qumba's approach to the New Thought movement. They believed that thought could affect all areas of our lives, not just our health.

It would not be till 1906 that Blavatsky's term Law of Attraction would reappear. Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought Word was written by William Walker Atkinson. In his book, Atkinson discussed the importance of strengthening one's focus and willpower to manifest one's desires. Atkinson's teachings were based on Hindu philosophy.

By the time the 20th century appeared, interest in the New Thought movement had exploded in America. Two notable books were published: Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich and Norman Vincent Peale's The Power of Positive Thinking.

A journalist, Hill drew his inspiration not from spiritual teachers but from poets like Ralph Waldo Emerson. Hill's contribution to the New Thought movement was the effect of negative thoughts on our lives.

One of the most influential spiritual leaders of the 20th century, Peale wrote the best seller The Power of Positive Thinking. The book discusses how to make faith practical by applying it to our lives. Numerous other books that were based on the Law of Attraction soon followed.

    Chapter 2: Our Energetic Universe

To have a deeper understanding of the Law of Attraction, we first need to understand the nature of the universe. Most of the universe is nonphysical. Only a small fraction of the universe is made of matter, meaning that it has a physical form.

The traditional scientific approach to studying the universe involved focusing on matter. After all, scientists want to study that which can be measured or quantified. They are not interested in studying phenomena that cannot be measured. Physics seeks to understand how the universe works by studying energy, forces, and matter. Those of us who are 50 years or older had our understanding of the natural world molded by physics, namely Newtonian physics. Born in 1643, the mathematician Issac Newton's ideas of the universe created the groundwork for modern physics.

Newton believed that we live in a mechanical universe where solid objects were in constant motion. These solid objects would later become known as atoms. Atoms were considered the smallest unit of matter. By studying the movement of matter, physicists attempted to explain the laws of the universe. Our view of the natural world is based on the idea that we live in a physical world where solid objects and forces interact. By studying these interactions, physicists sought ways to apply them for the development of new technology.

Newtonian physics was the unquestioned approach to understanding the universe until the 1920s. That was the time when quantum physics emerged as a scientific field of study. Quantum physics turned traditional theories of physics on their heads. It questioned even the most basic theories of Newtonian physics. With quantum physics, there came a dismantling of the sacred principles used to explain the laws of the universe.

The atom, which was long considered the smallest unit of matter, was no longer considered solid. The subatomic particles that form the atom are now considered to be fields of energy.

These particles constantly move in and out of existence, and they influence other particles.

Imagine if you had a ping-pong ball at the goal line of a football field. On the other end of the field, you had a second ping-pong ball. You rotate the first ping-pong ball and the second ping-pong ball rotates on its own, even though it is a great distance away. This is what happens at the quantum level of existence.

Further, these particles can take on the form of a particle or a wave. This means that you can have a solid particle in one instance, and in the next instance, it behaves like the ripples of a pond or lightwaves. What is amazing is that what determines if the particle is a solid or wave is whether it is being observed or not.

This brings us to the next point. In traditional science, there is the object and the subject. The scientist is the object. He or she is the one who observers the subject, that which is being studied. For ages, the object and subject were considered independent of each other. In quantum physics, the object and subject are interdependent. Through the act of observing, the object can influence the behavior of the subject.

When monitoring devices were used to observe atomic particles, they behaved as solid objects. When there were no monitoring devices used, the atomic particle behaved like a wave. In other words, the atomic particle behaved like a bullet that hit the center of its target. At other times, it acted like a flood light that illuminated the target and the surrounding area.

What quantum physics demonstrates is that we affect the world around us just by our observing it. Further, at the most fundamental level, we and everything we experience is grounded in the same energy field. We experience ourselves and the world around us as being of a physical nature. In fact, this entire universe, including ourselves, comprises energy that expresses itself as physical form.

The illusion of physicality comes from our limited sensory ability to discern the substratum of an energetic universe. It is like when we look in a mirror. The reflection that we see in the mirror appears to be a solid physical body made of flesh and bone. However, the body is made of trillions of microscopic cells. In turn, each cell is made of numerous cell components. These components are made of smaller components. In turn, these smaller components are made up of even smaller components, and so on. Diving down deeper, we would eventually reach the atomic level. Go down even further, you guessed it….all that we would find is energy.

The energy that I speak of is not to be confused with the energy we use in our daily lives to power our homes or run our vehicles. Instead, the energy that I speak of has intelligence, and it contains information. It is this intelligence and information that creates the unlimited expressions of life that we experience. It is for this reason that we can refer to this energy as conscious energy or Prana. Whether it is a cell from the human body, an embryo, or a rock, this energy provides the blueprint for the physical world to take form.

In whatever form this energy manifests, its manifestation is not separate from this energy. Not only are you a manifestation of this energy, but you are also inseparable from it. It is like a drop from the ocean. The drop shows no resemblance to the mighty ocean; however, the drop and the ocean are identical in their chemical composition. In the same way, you are inseparable from the universe. Whether it is a constellation in the evening sky, the mighty Himalayan Mountains, or bacteria, the essence of who we are is one with all of these things. This means that, at the fundamental level, you and that which you desire are also one and the same.

Since everything is one, just a single thought by you reverberates across the universe. Everything that we can experience is found within conscious energy, and everything that we experience is conscious energy. What follows is an exploration of the ways this conscious energy is expressed. We will begin with the mind and body.

The Mind and Body as Energy Fields

From our perspective, the world that surrounds us is separate from us. At the quantum level, there is no distinction as we and our environment are the expressions of the same energy. Further, this energy can be influenced by us, just by giving it our attention. How we affect this energy has to do with our energetic frequency or vibration. What affects our vibration is our thoughts and emotions. Our thoughts and emotions can affect the vibrational frequency of our entire body and beyond. In the next few sections, we will explore how the mind and body are part of the universal energy field.

The Role of the Mind on the Energy Field

    Thoughts and the Energy Field

Before discussing thoughts, it is important to understand how we experience ourselves and the world around us. First, there is no such thing as a thought that exists independently of our minds. In fact, nothing that we have any knowledge of exists beyond the realm of our minds. To better understand this, let us begin with two presumptions. The first is that thoughts exist and the second being that our thoughts reflect the nature of reality.

Starting with the first presumption, the only thing that we know about thoughts is our conceptual understanding of them. What do I mean by this? No one has ever seen a thought. No one has ever studied them or identified what they are made of. Has there ever been an investigation as to where thoughts come from or where they go when they leave our awareness? Is there anything that we can say about thoughts other than that we have them?

As with everything else that we experience, thoughts are mental constructs that are created by our minds. The following example will illustrate this. Let us say you are looking at a flower. Your eyes take in the visual information that is obtained from it. This information is converted into electrical impulses and transported to the brain via the optic nerve. Your brain receives this information and then reassembles it, creating an image of the rose.

Information collected from your other senses (hearing, smell, taste, and touch) is processed similarly. They are added to the image that is created by the brain. When we see a rose, we do not perceive something that exists outside of us. Instead, we perceive a mental image.

We have learned that this mental image is a rose. Because we believe that we are separate and distinct entities in a physical world. We believe that the rose exists outside of ourselves. Besides being taught that this mental construct is known as a rose, we learn to associate meaning with it. We may believe that the rose is beautiful. Attaching meaning to a mental image creates what is known as a concept. Everything that we experience is a concept.

Concepts are a form of thought; they are a representation of our experience of reality.

Earlier in this section, two presumptions were made:

    Thoughts exist.

Our thoughts reflect the nature of reality.

How we experience reality is determined by our thoughts. Further, we know nothing about thoughts other than that we experience them. What we are left with is the inescapable conclusion that there is no world that exists outside ourselves, of which we can prove. Further, the only thing that we can know about this world is that we experience it.

However, we can go deeper with this. How we experience ourselves is a concept as well. Could it be that you and I are just a thought? I make these philosophical statements for a reason. The traditional view of the Law of Attraction is that we can attract what we desire into our lives by thinking about it.

This view assumes that there is a world outside of ourselves and that which we desire exists outside ourselves as well. It also assumes that we are in control of our thoughts. Lastly, it assumes that whom we experience ourselves to be actually exist! Regardless of which viewpoint is correct, they are grounded in thought. Everything that ever existed began with a thought.

I have presented this philosophical analysis for one important reason. Whether it is the Law of Attraction or anything else that you want to learn about, realize that all knowledge is based upon our limited understanding of the universe. Whatever knowledge that is derived from the minds of humans is superficial at best. The reason for this is because we believe that our mental representations are reality itself. Now that we have this perspective as a backdrop, we will discuss thoughts and their role in the energy field.

As previously mentioned, we are unable to discern the qualities of thoughts. Thoughts do not have a shape, color, or size. We do not know where they originate from or where they go. Further, we do not know what they are made of.

The only thing that we know about thoughts is that they exist. We lack an understanding of thoughts
