Lucid Dreaming & Astral Projection Made Easy - Spiritual Awakening Academy

    Lucid Dreaming Introduction

John was flying in the air. He could see white clouds arounds him and breathe the fresh air surrounding him. He took a look at his wings that were flapping away cheerfully. John had a smile on his face. Oh! How beautiful it is to fly. His legs felt weak and were just hanging below him and John had no care in the world. He was flying towards the sun and wanted to hold the molten ball in his hands. With this thought John looked down below and saw that he was flying above water. The wide expanse of the blue ocean with frothy white waves rising and receding enchanted him. He thought the waves were calling out to him. John felt like walking on water. He wanted to experience the thrill of cold water touching his feet. He swooped down and descended towards the ocean. As he neared the water he could feel the chill, saltiness of the ocean and the cool breeze surrounding him. The waves were roaring high and the sound echoed in his ears. When John started walking on water he realized that his feet weren’t getting wet. He looked down at his feet that were dry and not wet though he was walking on water. This puzzled John. With a start he tried to wake up and realized that he was dreaming. John soaked in all the feelings and emotions he felt and came to the conclusion that this is no ordinary dream. He could vividly remember all the details of his dream and felt that he could control its outcome. Finally John understood that he was having a lucid dream.

A lucid dream is a dream that can help you to connect with your feelings and emotions and make you feel satisfied and happy after a dream. In a lucid dream you have the power to control it and steer it in the direction you want. Lucid dream can be induced and you can actually use some techniques and tools to have a lucid dream. In this ebook you’ll read all about lucid dream and how it came into existence and how you can enjoy a lucid dream and benefit from it, etc. Before we proceed further let’s take a look at what is a lucid dream and how you can comprehend that your dream is lucid and not a normal one and how advantageous it is to lucid dream.

The physical world is beautiful but you can enjoy only some of it. Most of it is out of your grasp. This is because of the nature of reality. What if you are given an opportunity to experience your fantasies? What if you could live your fantasy? Though this may seem foolish and crazy, you can actually play out your fantasy. You can create an imaginary world in which you can travel to the moon and even experience sex with the hottest movie star. All this is possible if you can master lucid dreaming.

    What is a dream?

Dreams are a part of our life. Every one of us dreams during sleep. Sometimes you remember these dreams when you wake up. Making sense of these dreams can however be exasperating. There is a reason for the frustration when you try to understand dreams. Dreams don’t follow the normal laws of science or gravitation, which you are used to in normal waking hours. You may fly and pass through solid concrete walls. You may recall events which happened twenty years back and even become a child. You may transform yourself into a teenager while at the same time you may see yourself as an old person. Surprisingly you accept situations and circumstances which may in reality actually be bizarre and weird. While dreaming you do not question the logic or rationality. You simply flow with the dream. Dreams seem real when you are asleep.

To understand lucid dreaming you must first know the nature of dreams. Surprisingly scientists are still not unanimous about the nature of dreams. There are many theories which are spread across the spectrum. Some researchers claim that dreams are a bunch of useless images which are accidentally and sporadically triggered by the neurons in the brain during sleep. Others believe that there is no activity in our body or mind unless there is a purpose for it. Dreams are considered essential to bridge the gap between your day time activity and your subconscious mind. Dreams give a meaning to our experience. They extract and embed critical information in the brain and filter out noise and unwanted data.

Dreams are considered to be essential part of your mental wellbeing. Imagine that you want to experiment with flying. In real life this could be a potentially fatal experience. There are many such practices which you may love to try. In fact, the subconscious mind is a child which forever wants to touch fire and feel the heat. Dreams are an important channel to experience such exuberant thoughts.

Scientific studies have revealed that dreams occur during sleep when some conditions are fulfilled. The first requirement is that your brain must be in a rested state. Of course your brain is never idle. It keeps working even during sleep but at a minimal level. When you are asleep, you external senses are blocked. You cannot see, hear, smell, feel or taste anymore. This means that the brain is free from moderating external stimuli. In a state of sleep you lose a sense of individuality. You no longer remember who or what you are. Your body remains still and shows remarkable slackening of muscles. You realize that the above conditions can also be experienced in waking state when you may start dreaming.

The problem faced by the scientific community was to identify the moments or time during which a person is in a dream state. Experimentation with dreams became possible when it was discovered that the brain becomes unusually active while in a dream state. Moreover, there is a noticeable increase in breathing and pulse rate accompanied by a physical rigidity. Researchers also noticed flickering of the eyes under closed eyelids.

This unusual movement of the eye was termed as the rapid eye movement (REM). Normally you experience REM several times during sleep. Now how do you associate dreams with REM state? If you were to be woken up during the REM stage, you are likely to recall your dreams better. You remember details and sometimes even the entire sequence of dreams with vivid clarity. On the other hand, if you were to get up during the non REM state, your recall is likely to be poor. It therefore became clear that REM and dreams were correlated. This observation was a milestone in the research of dreams. Now you could examine and experiment with the activities related to dreams.

    What do we dream?

We dream boldly that which we cannot express in our waking time. Fantasizing and dreaming about undoable experiences in life manifest in our dreams. We can fly, walk through oceans, dig mountains and run on a moving train. You’re your own hero in your dreams. These are normal dreams. Lucid dreaming is when you know you’re dreaming and can actually control your dreams. People want to practice lucid dreaming without knowing what it actually means. With an imperfect understanding, you will only land up getting confused and demotivated. Lucid dreaming is essentially an awareness that you are dreaming. Generally, when you dream, you don’t realize that it is a dream. It is reality for you. Only when you wake up you realize that it was a dream. Obviously you don’t have any control over your dream. Unusual and strange things happen in a dream. Lucid dreaming means that you become aware that you are dreaming. This awareness has important consequences. You can now take control of your dream. You can direct the content of your dream. Isn’t this wonderful? Another feature of a lucid dream is that gravity and other laws of nature do not apply. You can fly and soar in the sky. You can be in any part of the world. You can enjoy the company of other people whom you desire in real life. You can transform yourself into any creature or animal. There are many more magnificent things you can do and attract unimaginable success in your life. Lucid dreaming can make you realize your dreams. Lucid dreams are especially useful for creative people. Artists, writers and athletes have been known to benefit from it. Movie directors, actors, animators and musicians have got motivation form lucid dreaming.

Why do you get inspiration in your lucid dreams?

This is an important question. Why should you receive special insight only in your dreams and not when you are conscious? During the waking hours your brain is busy receiving signals and stimuli form your sense organs. Your brain tells you that you must cross the road fast unless you want to get run over by a bus. Your brain is receiving information, processing it and making you do things which are essential for keeping you alive. During sleep, your sense organs stop functioning. Your body is supine and most of the body functions are stopped or slowed down. You breathe rhythmically and your heart beat goes down. This is called basal metabolic rate. What happens to the brain during sleep? Your brain never stops functioning. When it does not manage the senses, it changes its role and starts processing the information or data received during the day. It stores important short term memory into long storage. Some information it intentionally deletes from the brain. During this process, many chemical changes take place. Dreams are a result of this churning of the mind. In lucid dreaming you channelize your thoughts and direct your mind to consider and evaluate specific situations. This allows you to access the innermost thoughts, feelings, problems and solutions which you would not be able to consciously. Once you can get entry into your subconscious, you can create magic in your life. That’s why lucid dreaming is essential for success in your life.

Once you begin to become lucid in your dreams, you will be able to extend the experience. You will be totally absorbed in a systematically collaborative dream territory as original as any rousing practice. You can use lucid dreaming for spiritual development, for creative pursuits, or purely for fun and experience; that’s entirely up to you. This book will help you to get started by getting your wings and readying you for flight. How high you wish to fly is left to you. Lucid dreaming is the ultimate paradox of all paradoxes.

How long does it take to dream lucidly?

It depends. It usually takes longer than a month to realize the first lucid dream. It is possible that some people have encountered lucid dreams without trying and by accident. But such dreams are of no actual value. You may have a lucid dream of flying, but is that going to give you motivation? Gaining for lucid dreams requires a process. Initially you may not be able to channelize your dreams except for taking control over your body. Eventually you will progress towards controlling your dreams. The goal of this book is to make you voluntarily control your lucid dreams. You must exercise patience while practicing the guidance provided in this book.

Before we go into getting to know about lucid dreams let us take a look at the stages of sleep and how they are classified.

    Stages of sleep explained

There are 4 – 5 stages for a good night’s sleep. You go through these stages one after the other at a gap of 90 minutes per stage.

Stage 1 is when you’re entering your sleep. This stage is known as transition stage as well. In this stage you’re slowly making yourself comfortable from being awake to falling asleep.

Stage 2 is light sleep where you’re slowly unaware of your surroundings. Your body relaxes temperature drops and your heart rate decreases as well. Your breathing is regular and you’re slipping into sleep. It is in this stage that you’re completely relaxed. Your brain produces sleep spindles that are fast and pulsing. It is believed that most of the people spend 50% of their sleep at this stage.

Stage 3 is NREM (Non rapid eye movement) deep sleep – Here your muscles are relaxed and you’re into deep sleep. At this stage Delta waves appear in your brain and you no longer realize your surroundings. You’re less responsive at this stage to outside stimuli. It is at this stage that sleep walking takes place in some.

Stage 4 is REM (rapid eye movement) in this stage your brain gets active and body is relaxed and not moving. You’re practically immobile. At this stage dreams occur and eyes move rapidly. This stage of sleep can last up to 90 minutes.

    Stage 5 is repeat.

Lucid dreaming is a journey of self-discovery and self-empowerment. The path begins with you and within you. Throughout your journey you will not only learn how to dream lucidly but you gain a better understanding of yourself along the way. Your travels will be influenced by all the factors that affect you in your waking life so by developing your dreaming side you will be cultivating a better waking self as well.

As remarkable as lucid dreaming is this book discusses in detail about Lucid Dreaming and Astral Projection. Both are out of the body and world experiences. They will help you to connect with yourself at a higher level and make you aware of your capabilities. You can be your own Master and decide your path in this life.

Chapter 1 – What is Lucid Dreaming?

So, you know that it is possible to have a lucid dream! This does not mean that all your dreams will automatically become lucid. You will have to realize that you are dreaming while within the dream sequence. Initially, you may not realize that you have experienced a lucid dream. Your awareness may be fleeting and you may lose grip on the dream. It is therefore important to first be able to recall your dreams – normal dream. The practice of recalling and noting your dreams is an important step in becoming lucid in a dream.

Your best chance of recalling a dream is when you awaken during the REM stage of sleep cycle. If you recall, REM stage usually comes every ninety minutes or thereabout. Initially the REM stage may last only for about ten minutes or so, but as you reach the morning, you may have prolonged REM stage in your sleep. You can try to get up approximately after six or seven and half hours of sleep. This will wake you up while you are dreaming. You should try to maintain a journal of your dreams because we often forget our dreams quickly. You can keep the dream book by your bedside so that you can quickly jot down your dreams when they are fresh in your mind. Stale dreams are often incomplete and you may not remember the sequence of dreams after some time.

Note down your dreams in every aspect. Recall the color of your dreams. What did you feel like– fear, anger, happiness, joy etc. Most of the dreams have hidden symbolic meaning. The interpretation of such symbols may lead to significant discoveries or facts about your life. For writers, symbols are very important. Story plots, character idiosyncrasies, major transitions and other details can pop up in your dreams in the form of symbols. This, of course, is only the first step in overcoming the writer’s block. It is during lucid dreaming that the real key to creativity will emerge.

Your best chance of recalling a dream is when you wake up. Try to recall your dream with your eyes closed. Your dream will be vivid and colorful in the first instance. Try to fetch all the details and maybe use a Dictaphone to record your dreams. You are likely to get distracted when you open your eyes. In the beginning you may not be able to recall all the details in your dream. Don’t be frustrated if your dreams seem drab and boring. Like everything else, even dream recall needs practice. Over a period of time you will find that your dream recall is better and you remember more details.

You must work on your dreams through the day. This does not mean you must give up your work and start daydreaming. Sometimes you may recall some parts of your earlier night’s dream during the day. Jot down the details immediately.

You may be wondering what the purpose of noting down the dreams is. Once you have quite a number of dreams in your diary, you can start looking for dream signs. This is an interesting part of the process. Common themes include missing the bus or aircraft, falling into a bottomless pit, running or chasing people etc.

Sometimes your dream may last days or even years. How is this possible? Dream clock runs differently from normal time which you are used to. Dreams which seem to last for hours may actually run for only a few minutes in real life. Time and space are warped in dreams. You may run for miles in your dream, walk through walls, have a sumptuous meal in a matter of seconds or perform extraordinary feats in your dreams. You can have several dreams in one single night. Sometimes you may even be having dream sequences – dreams linked to other dreams.

Signs that you had a lucid dream

It is easy to get fooled about having a lucid dream. You must do some reality checks to make sure that you had lucid dream. Can you walk through the wall or fly above your home consciously and at will? You are having a lucid dream if you can check your supernormal abilities. We will discuss reality checks in detail later in this book. Dreaming about dreams mean you have not had a lucid dream. Did you tell the characters in your dream that you are dreaming? This means you have had a lucid dream. In normal dreams we mistake dream characters as real. In fact we treat the whole dream as real and happening. If you attempt to control the dream you are having a lucid dream. This is obvious. You can take control of your dream only when you are having a lucid dream. In a normal dream, you have no control over the sequence of events. You seem to get dragged and plummeted. In a normal dream, you treat illogical and nonsensical events as genuine.

Lucid dreams are when you know that you're dreaming while you're asleep. You're aware that the events flashing through your brain aren't really happening. But the dream feels vivid and real. You may even be able to control how the action unfolds, as if you're directing a movie in your sleep. Lucid dreaming feels like manipulating real life— but from within the construct of your own mind! You can travel anywhere in an instant, defy the laws of physics, change your identity, wish for something and make it happen. The world is essentially yours to do with as you please.
