About this ebook

As we learn to grow, some stay boys, some grow to be men. I wrote this book to introduce myself to the world and to show people that no matter what you go through, you can always change.

In Death of a Boy, Birth of a Man: Blue Sky, Heavy Rain, not every day is going to be perfect. But every day you wake up is a new challenge, a chance for new opportunities, a chance to forget about yesterday's dramas and focus on newer and better things. We are human. We fear. We fall. But the one thing that makes us different is that we never give up.

Honestly, we've all been there. Hopefully, my writing this and sharing it with everyone can make a change in someone's life and help them refocus. As I said earlier, the book was made not only to introduce myself but also to remind both men and women that life is about growth. I hope everyone loves it, and I thank you for giving me this opportunity.

Look for my next book, White Roses, Red Wine--another book of poetry for the grown and the love seekers.

Death of a Boy, Birth of a Man - Jamel Nicot

    Two Men, One Son

I wouldn’t have felt right without this one.

    What’s going on, Dad?

    How’s heaven’s rehab?

    How’s life with Grandma?

    Hope you enjoy

    The life you never had.

    Can’t say I don’t miss you,

    ’Cause then

    I’ll be destroying the past.

    I remember

    The last day with you.

    I tried to be strong,

    But truthfully,

    It broke me in half.

    Seriously,

    I felt pain

    In my spiritual form.

    Had to hide to cry,

    Because inside,

    I knew your physical

    Would soon be gone.

    Part of me

    Felt anger.

    Part of me

    Felt joy.

    Part of me

    Wanted to say goodbye.

    But mentally,

I just said a prayer to the Lord.

    Tears falling down my eyes,

I didn’t want to see you suffer no more.

    New York

    Raised a beast,

    Rugged and raw.

    You taught me

    To never make your mistakes

    But become my own man,

    Conquer my fears.

    Everybody has flaws.

    No one

    Can be compared.

    There’s only one you,

Show ’em what you can do.

God made you my father for a reason,

    That’s why I love you.

Damn, this one going to hurt me more than most would believe.

    They thought I was yours

    Because we stayed together.

    We were

    Batman and Robin.

    Damn!

We were like all four seasons

    Made together.

    I was your

    Baby partner in crime,

Knew that we would bang forever.

    What up, Unc?

I came to you for advice,

You never made it a lecture.

    Taught me

The truth between right and wrong.

    And when I was down,

    How to keep it together.

    Wanted me

    To come back to NY.

    But I wanted

    To branch out,

To make my own piece of mind.

    Make something for myself,

Even if it meant I had to fall a few times.

    Truthfully,

    I f——cking miss you.

    It goes deeper than love.

    You were my father,

    Same blood

    But different tissue.

    When you passed,

    I think that’s when life

    Hit the hardest,

    Because my light burned out.

    Can’t even say.
