Tin Whistle / Penny Whistle – Instrument & Symbols

The Tin Whistle / Penny Whistle is played with the middle three fingers of both hands - the left hand covers the upper holes, the right hand the lower. Because there is no thumb hole, higher notes must be played by overblowing.

In this songbook, numbers are used for the closed holes - 6 therefore means all six fingers cover the six holes. The counting direction is from above - 4 means 4 fingers counted from above - the bottom two holes remain
