In 1964 the British musical instrument maker John Taylor developed the English-Pendant-Ocarina with 4 holes and the matching grip options - the English Crossfingering system. This grip system is used by many instrument makers around the world and can usually be recognized by the different sizes of the four grip holes - similar to the graphic above. This fingering system has been expanded with two thumb holes, allowing for even more usable tones.
