Kelela: Raven

he U.S. singer Kelela exercises artistic restraint on her second album, „Raven“. Although the songs have their roots in electronica, RnB and pop, they are predominantly reduced and quiet. Even when groovy tribal beats are heard in tracks like „Happy Ending,“ the overall mood remains subdued. „Raven“ is an album that sounds more like loneliness and isolation than crowded dance floors and unbridled hedonism. The artist also reflects on her role as a black woman in dance music, where she says she has often felt like an outsider.
