About the Author
PROLOGUE
To regain a sense of normalcy, three college buddies met up at the cabins after being quarantined for six months. While catching up, the guys got a little tipsy and began to get curious about recent kidnappings of women and children. They searched the dark web, curious about what they would uncover … but they didn’t expect that trafficking was happening right under their noses and that they would stumble upon it …
CHAPTER 1
The Reconnection
Brent and Seth finally made it to the cabins. Surprisingly, Seth beat everybody there this year.
Hey, what’s up? Good to see you made it here on time!
Brent shouted as he grabbed his bags from the trunk.
Hey! Good to see you have jokes this year,
Seth kidded as he walked over with a beer in his hand.
Damn, it’s only eleven a.m., bro … You must have a lot on your mind. We definitely are going to have a lot to talk about!
Brent responded, scratching his head.
Man, let’s just say that this vacation was overdue. Plus, it’s five o’clock somewhere. So I plan to make the best of this trip!
Seth laughed.
Hey, I’m down this year, bro!
Brent said as they walked into the cabin.
Hey, have you heard anything from Josh?
Brent asked as Seth gulped down the last drops of his beer.
Yeah, he’s on his way! I spoke to him an hour ago. You know that guy is always late!
Seth replied, and they both laughed.
Hey, where are the beers?
Brent asked, looking in the fridge.
They aren’t in the fridge, bro! They are in that cooler by the table. Can you grab three? Josh just pulled up!
he said as he walked to the door to greet Josh.
You guys shocked me this year with your choice of cabins! It must be the pandemic!
Josh said jokingly as he set his bags down by the door.
We have to make this year at the cabins a good one because being quarantined almost made me lose my shit!
Brent replied.
They all laughed and then headed upstairs to the game room.
The guys usually met every year at a cabin in Tennessee to catch up and reminisce about their college days at UCLA. They had taken several classes together and had been friends ever since. After graduating, they all moved to different states but stayed connected as if they lived next door to each other.
Out of the three friends, Seth had always been the one that was into cyberspace and cybercrimes. He had ended up with a criminal justice degree from UCLA. This dude could literally hack into anything. He landed many gigs from private investigators to follow people who were suspected of committing crimes but had not been approached by the cops. He hacked into all of the suspects’ social media accounts. He purposely went to stores with the suspects to gain access to their phone information by just walking close to them. He was the real deal hacker that people were warned about. He parked outside of people’s home to gain access to their Wi-Fi. That was how he could be twenty steps ahead of the suspects. He was paid under the table by private investigators who just couldn’t get it done the way he did. He made a living working for himself this way.
Meanwhile, Brent owned multiple youth outreach centers across the Southeast. He had always been the mentor type. He loved the kids. He also volunteered for several nonprofit organizations that helped reunite kids with their families after being kidnapped, as well as young women who were victims of sex trafficking. He had always wanted to make a difference, especially because he had been part of a boys and girls club growing up, as well as Big Brothers Big Sisters. He had become a mentor at Big Brothers Big Sisters in college to lead troubled youth. He felt the need to give back to the cause. His grandmother had raised him because his mom was a single parent and did what lots of mothers did: pass the child to grandma.
Josh was the playboy of the trio. Girls loved him. He loved girls so much that he opened several strip clubs in Atlanta, Georgia, which wasn’t surprising at all. His strip clubs were not the typical strip club that littered every city. These strip clubs were designed to keep dancers safe from pimps, escort agencies, and of course, sex trafficking. Josh protected the dancers at his clubs because host his best friend Misty because of sex trafficking. He and Misty had grown up together. She was the sister he never had but always wanted. Josh had beat himself up for years over her death because he felt like he was supposed to always protect her and keep her safe.
He had kept his word and had watched over her throughout high school. But Josh left Atlanta to attend UCLA, and she stayed behind to attend a local community college. She had done well in school until distraction appeared in the form of a very handsome entrepreneur who also attended the community college. He and Misty started studying together several times a week, which turned into every day, which then turned into only attending school a few times a week. This guy was very flashy and successful. This alone made Misty fall in love.
After months of dating the entrepreneur, she disappeared and so did her boyfriend. Everybody who attended school with them thought they ran off, quit school, and started a life elsewhere. But shortly after, Misty was found dead in a hotel room not far from downtown Atlanta. It was said that she had become one of her boyfriend’s many hoes. It turned out, he was a handsome entrepreneur but a pimp as well. Misty had been targeted and had fallen victim to flesh, materialism, and broken promises. Josh didn’t forgive himself until he made his strip clubs a place where dancers were secure and could make money freely. This gave him a sense of peace in his heart. He protected thousands of dancers because of Misty.
Let’s get on this pool table so I can whip your ass like I used to! Who want it first?
Josh shouted across the game room.
Damn, bro! Don’t tell me that you’re still competitive even after I put you off several different pool tables!
Brent said as he poured shots for everybody at the minibar.
Whatever, bro! Let’s throw these shots back before we get on the game!
Josh replied, putting his pool stick down and walking over to the minibar.
They all walked up to the bar and took their shots.
Josh looked at his friends and said, Man, I’m glad that you guys could make it. Nobody understands me like you two do. Remember when we used to stay up until four in the morning talking about secret services and UFOs? Those were the days, man. And it’s crazy how scared most of my friends back home are. They get nervous when I talk about anything unknown. From my experience, it seems like nobody wants to get into deep conversations!
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean!
Seth said.
Honestly, I call one of you guys when I get in the mood to have a real conversation. I’m so serious! When I’m at the bar while a random person is getting drunk with me, we’ll spark deep conversations, but that’s it!
Josh said.
Brent started to laugh. Both of y’all crazy! That’s why people are scared to engage in those types of conversations. They probably thought you were part of the Secret Service, trying to find out what they know!
The guys laughed and started a pool game. Brent pulled out weed and cigars and sat them on the bar.
Hell yeah, my friend! Roll up!
Seth said.
After the pool game was finished, they sat on the couch and engaged in a smoke session.
Man it’s so much going on in this crazy-ass world!
Josh said, shaking his head.
Brent took a puff of his blunt and said, Yeah, you are right! It really is crazy these days. So many conspiracy theories and things that were swept under the rug have come to the light over the last six months. Now people are realizing it was facts all along. Things are just starting to make so much sense. That’s all I’m saying!
Yeah, guys, I’m good on the weed!
Seth said, squinting his reddened eyes.
Brent smiled and shrugged. More for me!
I do want you to elaborate, Brent,
Seth said, waiting for details.
Yeah, Brent!
Josh said. Where are you going with that statement? Because it sounds like you were trying to say more.
I’m just saying! Have you guys been watching the news and documentaries lately?
Brent asked.
Josh got up and grabbed three bottles of water from the mini fridge by the bar and tossed them to the guys. I know you guys might have cotton mouth after all that smoking and talking!
he said as he sat back down on the sectional.
I have been paying attention to everything, and what I got out of it all is that we’ve been living a lie all our lives!
Seth said in between sips of water.
"It’s crazy how, growing up, we didn’t really think about the evil side of the world because we thought it was just a movie! I always thought it was just someone’s imagination. Kids have been kidnapped for years and we just thought, Damn they must’ve wandered off in the store and a pedophile scooped them up. All along they have been using kids to complete rituals and shit!" He grabbed his throat in disgust.
Man, if I would’ve known about this shit when I was a kid, I would’ve never went no damn where. This is why I wanted to make a difference and help families whose children have gone missing to reconnect with them. That’s why we apply pressure by staying on the cops and making sure they were doing their jobs and not slacking off!
Brent said and took a sip of water. His face was filled with disappointment.
Sometimes it’s not always a happy ending, but you have to be prepared for that too.
He sighed. It’s not only the children that are missing. It’s the women as well. I’ll never really heal from Misty being a victim of sex trafficking. Just when I thought vampires were fake, they really weren’t. It’s just in another form. They really are the rich people who have access to the information that the government hides from us, and that alone says a lot, guys,
Josh said.
They want us to believe that the world is only about growing up, staying out of jail, getting a college degree, finding a good job, keeping up with your credit, meeting a beautiful woman, falling in love, marrying her, having kids, taking care of your family, buying the house of your dreams, and getting stressed out trying to maintain all of it!
Seth replied.
I agree with that one hundred percent, man, because I think that as well. Meanwhile, they have us focused on all of those things and blinded by stress and depression. The rich are living the dark side of all of this; then they turn around and make great movies about it and stamp fiction as the category!
Brent added, laughing.
The guys started to feel a sense of relief and freedom at being able to brain dump on each other about things that other people wouldn’t even discuss. These guys were one in the same. Sure, they had different backgrounds, but they were just the same.
Damn! I have to piss like a racehorse!
Josh said as he left the room and headed to the bathroom in a rush.
I’ve also been researching a lot over the years, but more so during this quarantine. I understand life more now because my perspective has changed. When I found out that there’s levels to this, I knew my place, but also I knew not to question a theory,
Seth said.
Those documentaries are the first thing people tend to pass while on Netflix, Hulu, or whatever just to go to a damn movie. I’m waiting on them to come out with more documentaries, because I’ve watched them all. I watch documentaries on every streaming app you can think of. If you find something new, please let me know!
Brent said.
Josh walked back into the room and said in his heavy Southern accent, What are y’all idiots laughing at?
We were just talking about how I’ve watched every documentary known to man, and if you guys found one that I haven’t watched, please call or text me!
Brent replied.
I would definitely let you know because I’m running low on the documentaries as well,
Josh said. "For a long time I was in denial about life and thought to myself that this shit was not real and it’s fake. It was also said that us Americans won’t believe shit
