    Raquel was a top of the line mercenary. She did three tours of duty in Afghanistan, spent a few years in the Special Forces, and was offered a lucrative contract with a private military company. She knew how much to charge, and frequently her services (including clandestine assassinations or armed security) were too costly for the people who sought them. She was good, and had more than enough clients to keep herself solvent.

    And so Raquel was not surprised when an envelope was dropped at her doorstep, and inside she found a dossier, multiple stacks of hundred dollar bills, and a burner phone with one number in it. She ran her thumb over the bills slowly, feeling for the authentic crispness of legal tender, and the watermark sliver in the middle. Both were there.

    Still gotta check for a radioactive signature, she thought, and thumbed through the burner phone’s contacts. Only one listed – Terri, whoever that was. Raquel hit ‘call’ and pressed it to her ear as she leafed through another stack of bills.

    Eventually, the phone clicked as someone picked up the call.

    You got my message? a woman’s voice on the other end said.

    I did, Raquel replied. Anything else I should know?

    There’s more for you when the job’s finished, the mystery woman – Raquel assumed it was Terri – said.

    How much more?

    Three mil, Terri replied. Four if you don’t get seen.

    Damn, woman, Raquel replied. What’d he do, shit on your lawn?

    He did, Terri said, with a small chuckle. And I don’t like when dogs shit on my lawn.

    Understood, the soldier said. I’ll have it done for you in a month..

    Perfect, Terri said. Call this number for further instructions.
